Chapter 88: Unrecognizable in Clothes
After handing out the gifts, everyone chatted a while longer, added each other on WeChat, and then gradually took their leave. Before going, General Ma didn’t forget to ask Bai Qingming to help advertise his new internet café during his live streams.
Soon, only Bai Qingming and Slow Little Sister were left in the living room.
“By the way, shouldn’t you be leaving too?” Bai Qingming glanced at her. She froze for a moment. “Ah?”
He had just remembered that she’d lost a solo game to him and had come to be his housekeeper for a month as a result. By now, the time was long up.
“Well… my mom isn’t home recently, there’s no one at my place, and I’m scared to stay alone, so I plan to stay here for another month.” She spoke with utmost seriousness, without the slightest blush at the lie.
She couldn’t possibly leave now, not before she had this scoundrel of a man in the palm of her hand.
“I won’t be freeloading—I’ll keep cooking and doing the laundry.” She finished, but Bai Qingming didn’t respond.
Seeing that, she gritted her teeth and pressed on, “I can also wear different stockings every day for you—black, white, all sorts of styles.”
He coughed awkwardly. “Am I that kind of person? Mainly, I’m just worried you’d be afraid living alone. If you want to stay, then stay.”
He paused, then added, half-meaningfully, “Oh, by the way, I’ve been watching a lot of videos with nurse outfits, maid uniforms, and secretary costumes lately. They look pretty nice on people. Also, that ponytail dance that’s been trending. But don’t get any ideas—I’m just making conversation, nothing more, you know?”
“Scoundrel!” she muttered through clenched teeth, clearly having caught his drift.
Bai Qingming was thoroughly pleased with himself. He truly had no ulterior motives—he just wanted to test his own limits.
…
That evening, Brother Wang called.
“Hey, I heard you sang again, that Wolf Disco or something? I listened to it—man, it’s got a real kick!”
“It’s Wild Wolf Disco,” Bai Qingming corrected him.
“You know, your naming sense is really lacking. ‘Battle Wolf Disco’ would sound way cooler,” Wang rambled on, taking his time before getting to the point.
“So, I wanted to ask, what kind of gift is good for a girl?”
“Money!” Bai Qingming replied without hesitation. Who doesn’t like money?
“Uh… anything else?” Wang hesitated, trying to explain. “It’s not like I don’t have money, but giving cash feels too tacky. Anything more romantic?”
“Then give her flowers—roses. Girls love flowers, the more the better. Wait a minute, you’ve got a girlfriend now?”
Bai Qingming suddenly realized.
“Met someone online, meeting her in person tonight,” Wang said, delighted.
“Another online romance?” The phrase instantly piqued Bai Qingming’s interest. For some reason, he sensed tonight’s live stream material was about to appear. He couldn’t say why, but he just had that hunch.
“Need me as your advisor? You know I’m always happy to help,” Bai Qingming offered.
Wang was thrilled. “You’re a true bro. I’ll go order the flowers first—see you soon.”
He gave the address of a restaurant and hung up.
Bai Qingming checked his phone. Just then, Auntie Zhou, who’d said she wanted to game with him that night, messaged to say she’d run into something and asked to reschedule for tomorrow. And as for Zhi Xun, who’d pestered him all day to solo in League of Legends, after receiving gifts and kindness, didn’t bring it up again.
At that moment, Bai Qingming could hardly wait. Who knew what surprises Brother Wang would bring him tonight?
With that, he started his stream before heading out.
“Alright, folks, time for some action.”
…
Following Wang’s directions, Bai Qingming arrived at a restaurant that looked exceedingly upscale. To be honest, he wondered if he’d come to the wrong place. Would Wang really pick somewhere this high-end? It didn’t fit his image at all.
After a moment’s hesitation, Bai Qingming walked in anyway. Maybe someone was hosting a wedding banquet and Wang was here to crash it. Bai Qingming loved a good banquet himself—he’d eat anything, especially pork knuckle.
Upon entering, he saw Wang seated at his own table. Bai Qingming was surprised. Was Wang always this generous now? He was sitting alone, hadn’t ordered food yet, and there was only a bottle of wine on the table—clearly prepared in advance. Not only that, Wang was in a new suit, not rented but bought, as he was peeling the price tag off.
Bai Qingming leaned in and saw the price—twenty-one thousand.
“Did you strike it rich, Wang?”
He couldn’t help but ask as he sat down.
Wang smiled mysteriously. “Remember that missing person alert I sent in the group? I said my cousin was missing. Truth is, it wasn’t my cousin—it was a wanted murderer with a million-yuan bounty I saw online. Yesterday, someone gave me a tip, I went and caught the guy myself. To say thanks, I gave the tipster a hundred thousand, and kept the rest—nine hundred thousand, pure profit!”
After finishing his story in one breath, Wang, parched, was about to reach for water, but seeing Bai Qingming’s phone was live, he grabbed the wine instead and drank straight from the bottle.
“Damn, you can drink wine like that?”
“That bottle costs over ten grand.”
“Even the farm’s donkeys wouldn’t dare drink like this—Wang is a legend!” The chat was filled with amazement.
Wang wiped his mouth and started boasting. “Honestly, wines like this, I only use them to quench my thirst. I drink half and toss the rest. Next time I’m thirsty, I’ll open a new one.”
He pretended to be casual, but inside he was bubbling with excitement. Showing off in front of so many viewers—unbeatable.
When he was done, Wang pulled out his phone and handed Bai Qingming a photo without even looking.
“Check this out—this is my online girlfriend.”
Bai Qingming glanced at the phone. “Not bad at all!”
To give credit where it’s due, the girl in the photo was stunning—slender waist, pure face, long black hair, and childlike features with a curvaceous figure. She was pictured sitting on the floor of a room with a Japanese aesthetic.
The chat exploded.
“Is Wang’s spring finally here?”
“Wang’s about to find love and I’m still single—so frustrating.”
“Guys, doesn’t that girl look familiar?”
“+1, I feel the same way.”
“Wait, I remember now—isn’t that Aoi Sora?”
“Holy—so it is! I didn’t recognize her with clothes on!”
“I found it—it’s a still from a film, code av4523****. I’ve seen it—wait, no, my friend has seen it.”
“Man, with luck like yours, you’re destined to get rich!”
Seeing the comments, Bai Qingming was stunned.
Wang suddenly realized, snatched his phone back, swiped to another photo, and handed it over again.
“Sorry, wrong photo earlier. This is my online girlfriend.”
Bai Qingming: “…”
