Chapter 134: There Is No Ultraman in This World!
"A pretty young woman like you, actually doing something like this."
The shop owner grew instantly wary. He had once been an honest man himself, until the day a thief made off with his hard-earned daily wages, just like this. That naive young man had vanished, never to be seen again.
"I..." Dai Xiaomei was at a loss for words.
Beside her, Bai Qingming was laughing so hard he was practically falling out of his chair. After a lengthy explanation, the misunderstanding was finally cleared up. Carrying their donkey-meat buns and soup, the two found an empty table and sat down.
Taking a huge, satisfying bite of the bun, followed by a slurp of soup—pure bliss!
The shop was bustling with customers. Sitting right behind them was a family of four: a young couple with a son and a daughter. The boy looked to be six or seven, and the girl around four or five. The brother was busy playing with a Tiga Ultraman transformation device, while the little girl was holding her mother’s phone, watching a cartoon that was far too old for someone of Bai Qingming’s generation to recognize.
Once the cartoon ended, the little girl set the phone down and, mimicking the tone of the characters, chirped at her father, who was busy eating:
"Daddy, I want to eat too."
Such a cute and vivid scene naturally caught the attention of Bai Qingming and Dai Xiaomei.
"What a cute little girl." Dai Xiaomei’s heart was melting. Girls, after all, have no resistance to cute things.
The girl's father pushed his daughter aside. "Go find your mother. Daddy is still waiting to eat her leftovers."
The mother laughed. The sound puzzled the little girl, so she looked at her mother, tilted her head, and continued to mimic the cartoon's tone, asking:
"Mommy, what are you laughing at?"
*Pfft!*
Dai Xiaomei sprayed her drink.
...
After a long while, Dai Xiaomei finally regained her composure and went back to eating. Inadvertently, Bai Qingming noticed a small detail about the way the "old lady" was eating.
The chopsticks at this bun shop were the reusable, sterilized kind. Normally, people use the tapered end to pick up food, but Dai Xiaomei was using them backward, using the thick end—it looked rather awkward. Curious, Bai Qingming couldn't help but ask.
"Why are you using your chopsticks backward?"
Hearing this, the "old lady" blinked. "Don't you get it? I did it on purpose."
"On purpose?" Bai Qingming gave her a meaningful look. He had long suspected this woman wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and it seemed he was right.
"What are you thinking?" Sensing that Bai Qingming’s gaze was a bit off, Dai Xiaomei quickly explained. "Haven't you thought about it? So many people use these chopsticks every day. What if someone has a contagious disease? It would pass to the next person. Even if they're sterilized, I don't feel safe. So I use this end to eat. It's safer."
"Everyone says I'm a ditz, but I'm actually not at all. Most of the time, I'm incredibly sharp," Dai Xiaomei boasted triumphantly.
"I see!"
Bai Qingming nodded as if he understood. He then noticed a bespectacled boy sitting at a nearby table. The boy was very thin and pale, looking rather sickly. More importantly, he was using his chopsticks exactly the same way as Dai Xiaomei—backward.
"Brother, why are you using your chopsticks like that?" Bai Qingming leaned over to greet the boy.
Seeing someone strike up a conversation, the boy wiped his mouth. "You're asking about this? It's actually nothing strange. I have a contagious disease, and I'm afraid of passing it to others, so I use this end."
The boy replied honestly.
As soon as he finished speaking—
*Clatter!*
The chopsticks in Dai Xiaomei’s hands fell to the floor. The half-eaten donkey-meat bun suddenly lost its appeal.
"Do you come here often?" Bai Qingming asked.
"First time."
Hearing that, Dai Xiaomei let out a sigh of relief. But then the boy’s tone shifted.
"Just kidding! The owner is actually my dad, and I eat here every day!"
"Haha. Surprised? Unexpected, right?"
...
Dai Xiaomei felt numb. She felt her entire world crumble. "It's over. I'm not clean anymore." She felt hopeless.
Just then, the owner walked over. "Don't listen to his nonsense. He is my son, yes, but he doesn't have any disease. He just has a cold these past couple of days. You little brat, I'll beat you to death if you keep messing around!"
With the owner’s reassurance, Dai Xiaomei finally relaxed. Phew, a false alarm. She was still clean. Her purity remained intact. However, just to be safe, she asked the owner for disposable chopsticks to finish her meal.
At the same time, the little boy from the family of four suddenly jumped off his chair and began running around the shop. One moment he was tearing tissues into shreds in front of other customers and throwing them, the next he was balling up used tissues and tossing them onto another table. The brat’s nature had taken over, making it impossible for others to eat in peace.
Finally, the boy stopped next to Dai Xiaomei and raised his Tiga Ultraman device.
"It’s time to begin!"
"You foolish Yapool!"
"How dare you control the warriors of the Land of Light!"
"Shia~"
Yelling strange sounds, the boy reached out and lifted the hem of Dai Xiaomei’s skirt.
White, with lace trim.
No safety shorts.
Bai Qingming saw it all perfectly from the side.
"You child!" Dai Xiaomei covered her skirt with one hand and gently pushed the boy away with the other.
But the boy was relentless, chanting as he went. "This monster is truly powerful, but you will never defeat the light! Shia~"
Dai Xiaomei was getting angry. She looked at the boy’s parents. "You two, can you please control your child?"
To her surprise, the response was: "He’s just a child, why are you making such a big deal out of it?"
Dai Xiaomei was stunned by this. Are there really parents like this? Is this something a human being would actually say?
"Little brother, if you do that again, sister is going to hit you," Dai Xiaomei said, trying to scare the boy.
But the boy was dismissive. "Humans are truly pathetic creatures."
"If sister gets angry, I really will hit you!" Dai Xiaomei emphasized her point.
Ignorance is fearless; the boy felt no terror at all and continued, "What’s the use of you hitting me? Hurry up and transform into Ultraman!"
Dai Xiaomei was completely speechless. What could she do? She couldn't actually hit the child, could she?
Just then, Bai Qingming called out to the boy. "Little brother, come here, brother has a secret to tell you."
"What secret?" The boy was intrigued and walked over.
Bai Qingming leaned down and whispered something in the boy’s ear. Gradually, the boy’s eyes widened, his expression changed, and he looked utterly incredulous.
The next second—
"Mommy..." The boy burst into tears.
"What did you say to him?" Dai Xiaomei felt a sense of vindication, but was also deeply curious. She couldn't imagine what could possibly make a brat cry with a single sentence.
Facing her question, Bai Qingming flashed a mischievous smirk. Then, mysteriously, he said:
"It was nothing."
"I just told him..."
"Wake up, kid. There's no such thing as Ultraman in this world!"
