Chapter 4: Was It Given to You by a Seductive Temptress?
Two comrades looked outside, watching the relentless onslaught of birds, and they felt their entire worldview shake.
A slightly younger, sharp-eyed comrade skillfully activated the camera embedded in his chest, first pointing it outside, then steadily focusing it on Mo Qianxun.
The other, a more seasoned comrade, asked, “Ms. Mo, do you know what’s causing this?”
Mo Qianxun nodded, somewhat sheepishly placing the Nine Nether Herb she had hidden under the sofa onto the table. “Because of this!”
As soon as the Nine Nether Herb came into view, the commotion outside grew even more intense; the birds seemed to be going mad.
The two comrades quickly returned the herb beneath the sofa. Strangely, the attacks continued, but with noticeably less force.
“Ahem! Ms. Mo, where did you get this flower? Do you know what it is?”
Mo Qianxun carefully recounted how she had obtained the food delivery system and her encounter with Fox Meier.
The two comrades’ worldviews shattered with a cracking sound.
“You’re saying you have a food delivery system, and this flower was given to you by a fox spirit?” The younger comrade eyed Mo Qianxun skeptically.
Mo Qianxun nodded. “Exactly. I have a fixed daily order to deliver. If I don’t, the system deducts a thousand yuan from me. Officer, I’m an orphan; earning money isn’t easy. I barely managed to scrape together next month’s rent. If it gets deducted, how am I supposed to live?”
The two comrades exchanged silent sympathy. Poor girl.
“Have you made today’s delivery?”
“No orders have been dispatched yet.”
Just as Mo Qianxun finished speaking, she heard a familiar alert and immediately frowned. “Here it comes!”
The two comrades leaned in as Mo Qianxun opened her app to reveal the order. She looked resigned, as expected.
It was another order from Qingqiu, addressed to Fox Meier, still five roasted chickens.
The younger comrade searched online for the app’s name on his phone but found nothing.
“Hold on, I’ll report this to headquarters,” the seasoned comrade said, stepping aside to make a call.
The younger comrade told Mo Qianxun to click through every clickable option in the app.
Why didn’t he do it himself? Clearly, he’d already tried and found it useless.
After thoroughly examining the system, his eyes lit up. “My goodness, you’re actually the Chosen One!”
Mo Qianxun twitched the corners of her mouth. Great, a fan of web novels.
“Whether I’m chosen or not isn’t important. What matters is that this order must be delivered within an hour. If I’m late, I wonder if they’ll deduct money from me.”
“Don’t worry, with us here, you won’t be late!” If this system was real, it would be a tremendous opportunity for all of Huaguo.
Five minutes later, the seasoned comrade approached. “Headquarters has dispatched two teams of armed police: one to deliver the flower to the Botanical Research Institute, the other to protect you during your delivery.”
“How long until arrival?”
“About ten minutes.”
Mo Qianxun breathed a sigh of relief and moved the four unopened Nine Nether Herbs over to the window.
“These are unopened Nine Nether Herbs. Let’s send them along too!” Her small apartment really couldn’t endure this kind of chaos—if the window broke, she’d be footing the bill, which would only add to her financial woes.
The two comrades fell silent for a moment, staring at the unopened herbs.
The younger one chuckled, “If you hadn’t said anything, I’d have thought these were just wild weeds.”
Mo Qianxun: Honestly, at first, that’s exactly what I thought!
Such a grand name, such humble appearance, and such a staggering effect! (Especially those reckless birds outside.)
About ten minutes later, a group of SWAT officers arrived at Mo Qianxun’s home.
To be honest, seeing the scene outside was nothing short of shocking, and they were filled with curiosity about what was to come.
Two obviously experienced SWAT officers approached and, after speaking briefly with the two police officers, formed a protective circle around the five Nine Nether Herbs, shields raised.
Fortunately, their vehicle was parked close to the community gate, so after fending off a dozen or so birds, they successfully got inside.
Inside the car, the SWAT officers patted their chests.
“I’ve never seen such fierce flocks of birds—and so many of them. What on earth is this?”
“Yeah, luckily they’re just common sparrows and magpies, not very large, so the impact isn’t too bad.”
“Enough talk. Our mission is to deliver these five herbs to the research institute as quickly as possible.”
“…Actually, I’m more curious about the task assigned to Feng and his team. They’re apparently protecting that little girl delivering the order, right?”
“…Now that you mention it, I’m curious too. What kind of delivery needs a whole SWAT escort?”
“…”
Meanwhile, with the Nine Nether Herbs relocated, the birds chased after them, leaving Mo Qianxun and her group safe.
After collecting the delivery from the boss, Mo Qianxun, under the watchful eyes of the boss and onlookers, got into the SWAT vehicle.
Boss: …What’s going on here?
Onlookers: …Wow, that’s impressive!
Mo Qianxun sat in the passenger seat, guiding the driver. Soon, they arrived at the familiar forest.
The young police officer stared silently at the forest ahead, disbelief in his eyes. “Really here? I came hiking here on my day off yesterday and didn’t see any Qingqiu.”
Mo Qianxun nodded. “That’s right. It’s not far—about ten minutes on foot.”
She led the way confidently.
The SWAT officers quickly followed, their eyes shining with excitement.
Under Mo Qianxun’s guidance, they soon reached their destination.
However, an invisible force kept the officers about five meters away.
From their perspective, the space before Mo Qianxun suddenly distorted, revealing a woman in red. Next to her stood a man in green and a woman in pink. The eerie scene might have been mistaken for a haunting if one didn’t know better.
Fox Meier looked at the group of black-clad men behind Mo Qianxun, each holding strange devices, puzzled. “Are all those people with you?”
Mo Qianxun glanced back, giving them a reassuring look. Smiling, she said, “Yes, these are men sent by the state to protect me.”
Hearing this, the three sized up the SWAT officers carefully. Fox Meier suddenly laughed. “It seems your country treats you well. Those men behind you radiate righteousness; many carry the light of virtue. To have such people sent to guard you, it’s clear your country values you highly.”
