Chapter 20: He Is Just a Lecher
Seeing Zhao Jianguo’s expression, Mo Qianxun immediately understood—he must have been humiliated by the state banquet chef.
“All right, I’ll ask Sister Mei’er in a bit.”
Mo Qianxun opened a private chat and sent a message to Fox Mei’er: Are you there?
Fox Mei’er replied: Qianxun? What’s up?
Rider Qianxun: Sister Mei’er, the banquet dishes you requested are all prepared. When should we deliver them to you?
Fox Mei’er: So fast?
Rider Qianxun: I figured you’d be in a hurry to use them.
Fox Mei’er: Okay, if it’s convenient on your end, just bring them over. I’ll find someone to switch shifts with me and come to see you right away.
Rider Qianxun: Sister Mei’er, are you busy?
Fox Mei’er: Yeah, when you messaged me earlier, I had just received the Ghost Lord from the Netherworld. After getting your message, I found an excuse to step aside.
Rider Qianxun: No worries. If you’re busy now, we can deliver the food a little later.
Fox Mei’er: It’s fine. I’m not particularly fond of that Netherworld Ghost Lord anyway.
Rider Qianxun: Alright then!
After finishing the conversation, Mo Qianxun relayed the update to Zhao Jianguo.
“In that case, let’s head to the kitchen and collect all the dishes.”
“Got it!”
They arrived at the kitchen to find Chef Guo, the state banquet chef, already waiting. The dishes he had prepared filled an entire long table, still steaming and looking delicious.
“What a wonderful aroma,” Mo Qianxun said as soon as she stepped inside.
“Smells good, doesn’t it!” Chef Guo said proudly. He had heard this banquet was very important and had pulled out all his skills. If the food wasn’t good, where would his reputation as the state banquet chef stand?
“All right, Old Guo, pack up your things and go home to celebrate your wife’s birthday. Leave the rest to us. And remember, our confidentiality agreement—don’t say anything you shouldn’t.” Some things were not for Chef Guo’s ears yet.
Chef Guo wasn’t curious. After all, when the time was right, he would be told anyway. “Okay, I’ll head off then. By the way, eat the dishes while they’re hot; if they cool down, they won’t taste as good.”
“I know, I know.”
After Chef Guo left, Mo Qianxun called out to 008.
“008, the banquet dishes are ready. Where’s the spatial nexus? I’m about to install it for them.”
[Host, please open your palm.]
Mo Qianxun obediently opened her hand, and a small silver-white cube appeared instantly.
She examined it for a moment. “So this is the spatial nexus. How do I use it?”
[Host, aim the spatial nexus at the dishes and press the blue button on top.]
Following instructions, Mo Qianxun pressed the blue button. The table and dishes were enveloped in a faint blue glow. When the light vanished, all the food had disappeared from the table.
“How magical!” Mo Qianxun’s eyes sparkled.
Zhao Jianguo took the spatial nexus, inspecting it carefully. It looked like an ordinary small square metal block, unremarkable at first glance. Yet this tiny, inconspicuous piece of metal was the legendary spatial nexus—who could have imagined that?
[Alright, Host, let’s deliver this to Fox Mei’er.]
“Okay!”
For this trip, Zhao Jianguo again assigned Captain Wang and his team to escort Mo Qianxun. He needed to report on recent developments, especially Mo Qianxun’s ability to traverse other worlds. Moreover, the construction of the base had to be accelerated; otherwise, he feared some secrets might leak.
When they reached the forest, Mo Qianxun had only walked a few meters when they encountered two groups: one was a family of four out for a picnic, and the other five people hiking.
“This place really isn’t safe anymore,” Mo Qianxun whispered.
Captain Wang nodded and sent two men to follow the two groups, guiding them away from the area as much as possible.
Arriving at the passage, Mo Qianxun’s eyes landed on Fox Mei’er, dressed in red.
“Sister Mei’er.”
“Qianxun, you’re here.” Fox Mei’er’s face immediately brightened with a smile upon seeing Mo Qianxun.
“Sister Mei’er, here. The dishes you requested are all inside. When you want to take them out, just press this red button. By the way, it’s best to find a long table to place them on—dropping them on the ground would be a waste.”
“I know. Luckily you saved me, or I really wouldn’t have known what to do.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Tsk, it’s that Netherworld Ghost Lord. If I had known it was him coming, I would have left Qingqiu earlier, no matter what.” Fox Mei’er’s face darkened at the mention of the Netherworld Ghost Lord.
“What did he do to you?” The look they exchanged suggested bad blood between them.
“You don’t know. That Ghost Lord isn’t a good person. He’s a pervert who wants me to be his Ghost Queen. Dream on.”
“Why? Is the Ghost Lord ugly? Or do you just dislike his personality?” Mo Qianxun’s curiosity peaked.
Fox Mei’er pondered briefly. “His looks aren’t bad—not ugly at all—but I really don’t like his personality. No, it’s more than dislike—I’m afraid of him. You don’t know, the Three Realms and Six Paths all say that this Ghost Lord Lou Ye of the Netherworld is notorious for being cruel. He’s taken three Ghost Queens before, and none of them had a good end. I don’t want to be the fourth.” The thought alone chilled Fox Mei’er.
“Is he really that terrifying?”
“If you ever get a chance to come to our world, I can take you on a tour of the Netherworld. I have a friend there who holds some status. Plus, the Netherworld has plenty of valuable things.”
Mo Qianxun’s heart stirred—not only the Netherworld, but she wanted to visit other realms too.
“Deal. It’s a promise.”
“All right, I won’t chat with you anymore. If others find out later, it won’t be good for either of us.” Fox Mei’er handed Mo Qianxun a white porcelain bottle.
“This is the Marrow Purification Pill, a gift for you. Although your world’s spiritual energy is too thin for cultivation, taking this pill can remove impurities from your body and benefit your health. The process might be a bit painful, though.”
Mo Qianxun looked at the pill in her hand, touched by Fox Mei’er’s kindness. “Sister Mei’er, you’re so good to me.”
“Fool, even though we’re from different worlds, you’re already my good sister at heart. Good things should be shared among good sisters.” Fox Mei’er smiled, a radiant smile that almost blinded Mo Qianxun.
“Now I understand why that Ghost Lord wanted you as his Ghost Queen. I have to say, Sister Mei’er, you truly are a fox spirit—so stunning, especially when you smile, simply breathtaking.”
“You’re such a chatterbox!” Fox Mei’er chuckled, tapping Mo Qianxun’s forehead. “I’m off now.”
“Goodbye, Sister Mei’er. Message me if you need anything.”
The only reply was the fading red silhouette of Fox Mei’er as she walked away.
