Chapter 23: I Have a Fear of Heights
"You... your order came too suddenly. It’s autumn where I’m from, so I didn't need winter clothes. By the time you placed the order, there wasn't time to put any on, and that's how I ended up like this." Huddling near the fire, Mo Qianxun finally felt herself warming up.
"I’m sorry, I didn't expect this to be the result," Johnson said, lowering his head in guilt.
"It’s okay, it’s not your fault. Is there anything you need me to deliver for you?" Mo Qianxun just wanted to finish this mission and go back; it was far too cold here.
"Take this as a gift." Johnson handed Mo Qianxun a necklace. The pendant was a red gemstone, though it didn't look quite like an ordinary ruby.
"What is this?" Mo Qianxun looked at the stone in her hand, puzzled.
Johnson chuckled. "This gem is a crystal from a Fire Dragon. It contains the power of flame. If you wear it, you won't feel the cold anymore."
Mo Qianxun put it on skeptically. Instantly, she felt a wave of warmth spread through her entire body. The cold was indeed gone.
"How amazing!"
Johnson laughed, then handed Mo Qianxun a large sack. "This is what I need you to take. Inside is a Blood Demon Wolf I just hunted. Please deliver it to Elisa Zueva in Rollin Town. She is a witch; if you don't know where she is, you can find her by asking around."
"A Blood Demon Wolf? Can I take a look?"
"Better not right now. I’ve placed a formation on the bag to isolate the scent of the Blood Demon Wolf. If you open it, the scent will leak out, and it’s very likely to attract more of them." Johnson’s expression was serious. "Blood Demon Wolves are pack animals. I had a hard enough time finding this one that was wandering alone."
Mo Qianxun looked him over. "Are you alright?"
"I’m fine. I need to continue my adventure, so I'll leave the wolf to you."
"Alright then, off you go."
Mo Qianxun dragged the bag out of the forest. Looking at the vast, snow-white expanse, she suddenly felt a sense of loneliness.
"008, can Sister Mei'er send me some things? Or can you help me contact my country and have them teleport some supplies to me?" If she had to walk all the way there by herself, how long would it take?
[...Currently, the private chat function only works with Johnson and Hu Mei'er. I will contact Hu Mei'er for you. Once we return, I’ll find a way to add a communication link to your country.]
"008, you're the best," Mo Qianxun said, touched.
{Sister Mei'er, are you there? I have an emergency!}
{...What’s wrong? Did something happen to you?}
Mo Qianxun explained the situation in the magic world to Hu Mei'er. {So, Sister Mei'er, could you lend me some useful items? Something to increase my speed, or even a vehicle would work.}
{You can actually travel to a different world? Does that mean you could come to Qingqiu as well?}
{Theoretically, yes.}
{...Fine. Hold on a moment, let me see what I can send you.}
Hu Mei'er returned home, took out a Qiankun bag, and filled it with some fruits and a few sets of clothes. She then found Fox Six and explained the situation.
"I remember the Heavenly Emperor gifted me some Pegasus horses last time. Send her one of the gentle ones. Also, I have some talismans I traded from those Taoist priests; I've finished studying them, so send those along too. She’s just a young girl, all alone in a strange world, and safety is the most important thing." Fox Six added a pile of items into the Qiankun bag.
Once everything was ready, she tucked the Pegasus into the bag, opened the interface, and clicked the teleportation function. The bag in her hand vanished.
{I’ve packed everything I could think of into the Qiankun bag. There’s food and some talisman papers. The packaging on the talismans explains how to use them. Use them wisely. Remember to take care of yourself while you’re out there alone.}
{Wuwuwu~~~ Sister Mei'er, you’re too good to me.}
Receiving the bag, Mo Qianxun felt deeply moved. Sister Mei'er really was wonderful to her.
{When you have time, tell me about the magic world. I’m quite curious.} The magic world—it sounded like such a unique place.
{Deal! I have to go deliver the goods now, so I'm logging off.}
{Alright.}
Mo Qianxun opened the bag, took out the Pegasus, put on a thicker set of clothes, and draped a white cloak over her shoulders, feeling much more comfortable.
She placed the bag containing the Blood Demon Wolf into the Qiankun bag, mounted the Pegasus, and squeezed its flanks just like she’d seen in movies. The Pegasus bolted forward instantly.
"Whoa! This is too fast!" Feeling the cold wind on her face and the occasional snowflake melting against her skin, Mo Qianxun freed one hand to tighten the straps of her cloak.
Just as she thought this was the Pegasus’s top speed, she glanced at the ground and her eyes widened—the ground seemed to be getting further and further away.
Two minutes later, Mo Qianxun looked down, her face numb and her body stiff. She realized she might be afraid of heights.
[Host, Hu Mei'er is so good to you! This Pegasus can actually fly!] 008 poked its head out, looking around excitedly.
"Heh... hehe... y-yeah. I, I’ll find a way to cure my fear of heights when I get back." She gripped the reins tighter. If she fell, she’d be turned into paste.
[Ah, Host, you have a fear of heights? That’s not right. When everyone was talking about their phobias before, why didn't you mention it?] 008 looked at her with a knowing expression. [Host, you lied.]
"Who knew I’d end up riding a horse in the sky one day?" If she had known, she would have mentioned it.
[Host, you have no ambition. Think about it—if your world ever enters an era of universal cultivation, flying on swords will be common. You’ll be flying around in the sky all the time anyway.]
"Haha, you have a point, but that’s not today."
After flying for about an hour, Mo Qianxun saw her destination. She found a secluded spot to land, put the Pegasus back into the Qiankun bag, hoisted the sack of the Blood Demon Wolf onto her shoulder, and headed toward the city gates.
"I have to say, thanks to the training lately, my physical fitness has improved significantly, or I’d never be able to carry this thing."
[Keep it up, Host! We can see the light of victory!]
