Chapter 115: The Mischievous Ghost

“Gray, you’re so bad!” Jerry gently stroked the girl sleeping on his lap and looked up at Ye Tian.

“Sorry!” Jerry patted Eve’s head softly. “Aren’t you going to ask about it?” Jerry looked up at Ye Tian.

“Not interested. I told you before, I only treat illnesses and save lives. Other matters don’t concern me.”

Jerry was momentarily stunned, then laughed. “You really are a strange person!”

Ye Tian immediately felt frustrated. “Can we say that differently? Why does everyone say the same thing?”

Jerry looked at Ye Tian and said, “Because your behavior is so strange, everyone who meets you says that.”

“Ugh, fine, fine. Your mouths must have been born on your bodies; say whatever you want.” Ye Tian gloomily continued to sort his herbs. Fortunately, he had everything Eve needed—what luck.

“The continent is in chaos now. Everyone is fighting for their own causes. Probably only you would be so eager to help others,” Jerry said quietly. “It would have been so great if I had met someone like you back then!”

“Fate is like a beggar’s chicken wrapped in mud—you don’t know if it tastes good until you open it. Even then, you only know after taking a bite. So never give up before the end. Eve can only rely on you now. If you also lose your way, what will she do?” Ye Tian said without looking up.

“I know. I will never lose my way!” Jerry patted Eve and said seriously. “Alright, it’s late. You two should rest. I still need to prepare and try to cure Eve as quickly as possible.”

“Thank you so much!” Jerry thanked again. Ye Tian waved his hand, and Jerry carried Eve into the tent.

“Little one, am I too much trouble?” Ye Tian suddenly looked at the little eagle perched on his shoulder. “But I just can’t help it.”

“Chirp!” The little creature chirped softly. Ye Tian smiled and got back to work.

“Gray, dear Gray, what are you busy with?” Suddenly, the prayer beads in his arms moved, and a white shadow slipped out. It gently wrapped around Ye Tian’s back and curiously asked, “What are these?”

“Herbs, to treat illnesses and save lives!” Ye Tian felt the weight on his shoulder and smiled. “Having a ghost like you is really convenient. I could carry a thousand of you and not feel it.”

“Hmph, do you think I’m willing?” Isabella, displeased, tugged at Ye Tian’s ear.

“How did you become a ghost?” Ye Tian asked curiously.

“Can I not say?” Isabella’s voice suddenly lowered.

“You can,” Ye Tian said, keeping his head down to continue his work.

“You’re dead, and I gave up cultivation to keep you company, but you ignore me!” Isabella tugged at Ye Tian’s hair in dissatisfaction. No matter how she moved, Ye Tian remained focused on his tasks. Eventually, Isabella got tired and angrily sat on Ye Tian’s neck. Ghosts can float, so Ye Tian didn’t have to support her lest she fall.

“Tired?” Ye Tian suddenly spoke.

“You, a dead person, still know how to talk!” Isabella reached out to tug his ear.

“I know you’re annoying, so I’m letting you vent!” Ye Tian continued, “Feeling better now?”

“No, not at all!” Isabella pouted adorably, then noticed the little creature on Ye Tian’s shoulder. “What’s that? It’s ugly!” She reached out to pinch the little eagle’s sharp beak, but the eagle quickly pecked at her. Of course, she missed.

“Chirp!” The little eagle flapped its wings, clearly startled.

“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Ye Tian comforted.

“I was scared to death! Look, my heart is pounding hard, and you say it’s okay!” Isabella complained.

“Oh, I wasn’t talking to you,” Ye Tian said, causing Isabella to immediately pout and tug his ear again.

After tugging for a long time with no reaction, Isabella grew bored and circled around Ye Tian’s neck. “Gray, Gray, stop fiddling and talk to me, okay? I’m bored, bored to death!”

“I’m very busy.” Ye Tian held Isabella gently. The girl giggled, then instantly turned into smoke and drifted away, reappearing on Ye Tian’s back, softly biting his ear. “Gray, Gray, where do you want to grab?”

“I want to grab your butt!” Ye Tian said with a frown. “Alright, I’ll finish up soon. Then I’ll tell you a story, okay?”

“Stories, yes, yes!” Isabella was excited, flying in front of Ye Tian and sitting cross-legged.

“Once upon a time, there was a diligent young man in the sky. He was very poor, so poor he only had one cow. One day…” Ye Tian tidied up while telling her the story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. “And so, the Milky Way appeared in the sky, and every year on the seventh day of the seventh month, the Cowherd and Weaver Girl meet on the magpie bridge to relieve their longing.” He finished and carefully packed the bag. “Done.”

“What a sad couple!” Isabella sniffled, as if about to cry.

“Can ghosts cry?” Ye Tian asked curiously.

“No.” Isabella hugged Ye Tian’s neck. “Gray, Gray, tell me another one!”

“No more. I need to rest tomorrow. You should go rest too.” Ye Tian stroked her head. “Food has to be eaten bite by bite, stories should be listened to little by little. If I tell you everything at once, what will we talk about tomorrow?”

Isabella pouted. “Fine, then tomorrow I love you. I’m going back to rest!” She snuggled into Ye Tian’s arms.

“Good night!” Ye Tian smiled and lay down on his tree bed.

“Gray, are you done?” Jerry on the blanket suddenly turned his head.

“You’re not sleeping either.” Ye Tian smiled.

“I was sleeping well, but woke up hearing noise, so I came to check. That story was really good.”

“That’s a lie!” Ye Tian chuckled.

“Even if it’s a lie, it’s touching. Once a year—many people never even have that chance in a lifetime!” Jerry sighed.

“Then let’s cherish the present.” Ye Tian turned over. “I don’t look to the future. I only focus on the now. Good night!”

“Good night.” Jerry said softly, then looked up at the starry sky. His mood was as indescribable as those stars.

“Forget it, just focus on the present.” Jerry glanced at Ye Tian, then at the nearby tent, closed his eyes, and fell asleep.

“Gray, Gray! Get up, get up!” Early morning, Eve was still asleep when Isabella’s voice sounded by Ye Tian’s ear. “Get up! Get up!” Isabella tugged Ye Tian’s ear, but he rolled over and kept sleeping.

“You lazy pig, get up!” Isabella turned and blocked Ye Tian’s mouth on the other side, thinking this would definitely wake him. Ten minutes passed, yet Ye Tian showed no signs of waking.

“Awake! Awake!” Isabella hesitated before inserting two delicate fingers into Ye Tian’s nostrils and wiggling them.

“Ah, ah, achoo!” Ye Tian sneezed, blowing Isabella far away. She climbed up, displeased, and saw Ye Tian rubbing his nose before sprawling back to sleep.

“Hmm!” Isabella was angry that he ignored her. She decided to teach him a lesson. Looking around, a smile curled on her lips. She floated onto Ye Tian and began swaying side to side. “Gray, Gray, get up, get up!”

Ye Tian suddenly opened his eyes and immediately sat up, causing Isabella to lose balance and tumble down.

“Good morning!” Before Isabella could speak, Ye Tian yawned and greeted her.

“Hmph, Gray, you finally got up. Why aren’t you still sleeping?” She floated over, annoyed.

Ye Tian was frustrated. How could he sleep with her wobbling on him? If not for her, he might have slept a bit longer. Of course, he didn’t say that.

“Hmph! Do you know how troublesome it was for me to wake you up?” Isabella shot him a glare and sat on his stomach. Ye Tian’s expression immediately changed—this was serious. Early morning with a rising pillar, plus a beautiful ghost wobbling on him. Although the feeling was slight, it was stimulating. Ye Tian had no choice but to get up.

“Isabella!” Ye Tian grabbed her shoulders and said seriously, “Don’t wobble on me like that anymore!”

“Why not?” Isabella blinked her bright eyes.

“No means no. No ‘why’s’!” Ye Tian frowned.

“Oh! Got it. Then tell me a story!” Isabella hugged Ye Tian’s neck.

“One more thing—you’re not allowed to hug my neck for no reason. You’re a girl!” Ye Tian added.

“No, I’m a ghost. I can do whatever I want!” Isabella pouted. “Gray, you’re so bad!” She turned and lay across Ye Tian’s back.

“Ah!” After Ye Tian finished washing up, Eve ran out terrified and threw herself into his arms.

“What did you dream of this time?” Ye Tian comforted gently.

“A ghost. I dreamed of a white ghost floating around!” Eve’s eyes brimming with tears.

“It’s okay. That ghost isn’t scary!” Ye Tian patted Eve’s head. “Go change your clothes. It’s a bit chilly this morning.”

“Oh.” Eve turned and went back to her tent. Ye Tian sighed and saw Isabella pouting in front of him.

“What’s wrong?” Ye Tian asked.

“Why is she hugging you too?” Isabella pointed at the tent nearby, displeased.

“What’s strange about that?” Ye Tian asked.

“Very strange. Why is that girl hugging you?”

“Then what do you want to say?” Ye Tian asked, annoyed.

“She’s not allowed to hug you. Only I can hug you.” Isabella pouted.

“Hey, hey, what kind of logic is that?” Ye Tian was speechless. She was more unreasonable than those noble daughters at the academy.

“I don’t care, I don’t care, she just can’t hug you.” Isabella hugged Ye Tian’s neck. “Isn’t it enough that I’m hugging you?”

“If it were up to me,” Ye Tian said, “I’d rather you didn’t hug me at all!”

“Hmph!” Isabella twisted Ye Tian’s nose in displeasure, then floated into Eve’s tent. “Ah!” The tent suddenly became lively.

“Eve, Eve, Eve, what’s going on?” Jerry, just waking up, didn’t know what was happening and rushed toward the tent.

“Don’t go!” Ye Tian said. Jerry stopped as if frozen by pressure, blushed, and turned away.

“I told you not to go.” Ye Tian shrugged helplessly and went to the forest to prepare breakfast.

“Gray, Gray! There’s a ghost, a ghost!” When Ye Tian returned, Eve ran over pitifully. “Gray, there’s a ghost. I feel like someone is touching me!” She touched her chest. “You said it was small, but feel it yourself—it’s not small!”

“Mm, mm, not small. Eve isn’t small at all!” Ye Tian patted her head, glanced at Jerry whose face was nearly buried in his pants, smiled, and said, “I’ll make breakfast. Stay here a while and don’t run around. If that ghost comes to bother you again, just ignore her.”

“Mm!” Eve nodded. Ye Tian looked over at the sulking Isabella nearby, then picked up a wild chicken and headed to the water source to clean it.
