Chapter 4: Who Is This Person? Why Do They Resemble a Vengeful Spirit Even More Than Him?
"Thud!"
With a dull impact, the vengeful spirit let out a shrill scream, its entire face caving in from the blow. The spirit was momentarily stunned. What was happening? It was a vengeful spirit, for heaven's sake! How could it be beaten up by someone using nothing but their bare hands? An overwhelming sense of disbelief washed over it, as if the very world had collapsed in that instant. Before it could process the thought, another punch slammed into its face, threatening to shatter its very essence.
The hospital room door suddenly swung open. Pei Hexuan stood in the doorway, supporting Bai Lu. Their eyes locked onto Bai Qianzhou, and seeing her throwing punches at thin air, the scene felt both bizarre and absurd.
Bai Qianzhou froze mid-motion. She looked up, caught the astonishment in the eyes of Pei Hexuan and Bai Lu, and slowly opened her fist, waving it at them gently.
"You two... are doing well?"
"What are you doing?" Pei Hexuan asked, looking at her with confusion.
"Oh, nothing. Just entertaining a friend." With that, Bai Qianzhou delivered another punch to the spirit.
"Stop hitting me, please stop! I really don't know anything! I don't even know why I ended up possessing his car. My mind was filled with only one command: to cause destruction, to make the brakes fail. Anything else, I truly don't know!"
The spirit had been beaten so badly that there wasn't an intact inch left on its face. Fearing further violence, it knelt on the ground and begged for mercy. Its voice trembled, filled with sheer terror; under the brutality of Bai Qianzhou, it had lost all dignity befitting a vengeful spirit.
"Hmm... it seems you really don't know anything. Did I wrong you?" Bai Qianzhou stepped out of the barrier and sat down on a chair.
"N-no, it's alright," the spirit stammered, shaking its head.
"My apologies. I shouldn't have hit you, but since you've already harmed people, I cannot let you stay," Bai Qianzhou said, looking at the spirit with an innocent expression.
"You—you—what are you planning to do?" The spirit was already traumatized by Bai Qianzhou’s punches and huddled in the corner, trembling violently.
"I’ll give you two choices." Bai Qianzhou’s tone was calm and firm. She raised one finger, her gaze sharp as a blade. "First, go to the Underworld to confess and face your punishment."
She paused, then raised a second finger. "Second, I beat you until your soul is scattered to the winds."
"I'll go to the Underworld! I'm willing to go to the Underworld and accept my punishment!" Despair and fear flickered in the spirit's eyes. It would rather face the judgment of the Underworld than be obliterated by this woman who was far more terrifying than any vengeful spirit.
"Good. Then stay quietly in the corner until I’m done with my business, and I’ll handle your case then."
The spirit wept in the corner. What kind of person was this? Why was she more like a vengeful spirit than he was?
"Little Master, I’ve heard everything from my husband. You not only saved him but also saved me. I truly don't know how to thank you enough." Bai Lu looked at Bai Qianzhou, feeling an inexplicable sense of closeness and a growing fondness for her.
"No need to thank me. I am simply paid to resolve disasters for others," Bai Qianzhou replied with a light smile, her words brimming with a carefree spirit.
"Little Master, my wife has woken up, so we can return home now," Pei Hexuan said to her.
"Very well." Bai Qianzhou walked over to the corner and, ignoring the spirit's wailing, bundled it up and stuffed it into a talisman.
Watching Bai Qianzhou’s motions against thin air, both Pei Hexuan and Bai Lu couldn't help but shiver. The room suddenly felt quite cold, leaving them with a sense of hair-raising dread.
Bai Qianzhou accompanied them to the Pei family villa. Upon stepping out of the car and seeing the villa shrouded in black mist, she stumbled slightly. This overwhelming wave of bad luck—was it nearly on par with her own?
She glanced at Pei Hexuan, who was glowing with golden light, then back at the ominous, mist-covered villa. She tilted her head, confused. This shouldn't be happening.
"Little Master, are you alright?" Pei and Bai asked, looking at her with concern. Bai Qianzhou shook her head in embarrassment.
"Please, let's go in."
The moment she stepped into the villa, Bai Qianzhou understood what was happening. The Pei family’s fortune was being stolen.
