Chapter 2: It’s Nothing, Don’t Worry, Just a Small Issue You’ll Get Used To
“First, I need to see your wife to know if I can save her,” Bai Qianzhou said with a slight smile, a faint confidence curling at the corner of his lips.
“All right!” Pei Hexuan nodded firmly, a trace of excitement flashing across his face.
It was nearly noon, so Pei Hexuan hurriedly asked the driver to arrange another car, then accompanied Bai Qianzhou to find a nearby place to eat.
Before heading out, Bai Qianzhou subtly caught the fierce spirit lingering on the car roof, gathering it into a talisman.
By the time they arrived at the hospital entrance, dusk had already fallen.
Pei Hexuan led Bai Qianzhou inside. When Bai Qianzhou stepped into the ward and saw the person lying on the bed, his footsteps faltered for a moment.
Suppressing the surge of emotions with an impassive calm, he carefully examined Bai Lu’s condition.
Bai Lu’s face was as pale as paper, her eyes tightly shut without a hint of vitality. A faint yet ominous aura surrounded her, with black mist spreading from her forehead and chest, relentlessly consuming her life force.
“Master, how is my wife?” Pei Hexuan asked anxiously, his eyes fixed on Bai Qianzhou.
“She’s not ill in the usual sense—she’s been cursed.”
“A curse?” A chill instantly gripped Pei Hexuan’s heart, disbelief coloring his voice.
Bai Lu was kind-hearted and never made enemies—who would dare curse her?
“That’s right. Her body was already weak, and the curse has only worsened her condition day by day. If we wait any longer, she won’t wake up again.”
Bai Qianzhou’s brow furrowed deeply. This curse threatened more than just Bai Lu’s life; it had already begun to affect others in the family.
“Can... can she be saved?” Pei Hexuan’s voice trembled.
“Yes, but I have one condition,” Bai Qianzhou said calmly.
“What condition?”
“I’ve heard the Pei family owns a treasured ancestral sword,” Bai Qianzhou said slowly, locking eyes with him. “I want that sword.”
As soon as Bai Qianzhou finished, Pei Hexuan’s gaze sharpened. “May I ask why you want our family heirloom?”
“Of course it serves my purpose. That sword is a sentient object. It’s a shame for it to gather dust in your home. Instead, let it be the price for saving your wife. I can also use it to perform more good deeds, bringing blessings to your Pei family.”
Bai Qianzhou’s words left Pei Hexuan silent. That sword had been passed down through generations, yet no one could ever draw it from its sheath.
He couldn’t understand why Bai Qianzhou wanted a sword that couldn’t be unsheathed.
“Are you sure you can really cure my wife?”
“Absolutely, but it will take some time,” Bai Qianzhou said firmly.
Pei Hexuan’s heart raced. If Bai Qianzhou could truly save his wife, he was willing to give him the sword.
“Very well. If you can truly save my wife, I will give you that sword.”
“It's a deal!”
Bai Qianzhou’s face broke into a wide smile as he walked toward Bai Lu. But in his excitement, his left foot slipped out of rhythm, blocking his right foot’s path, and he suddenly fell to the ground without warning.
“Master!” Pei Hexuan was startled by the sudden fall and rushed to help Bai Qianzhou up.
Bai Qianzhou quickly stretched out a hand. “It’s fine, don’t worry. Just a minor issue—I’m used to it. I can handle this myself.”
Supporting himself with one hand, he slowly sat up and casually brushed the dust off his trousers with a fluid, practiced motion, as if this had happened countless times before.
Bai Qianzhou paid no mind to appearances, sitting on the floor with one hand propping his chin, silently grinding his teeth.
Inwardly, he cursed: Damn this bad luck. Can’t I be happy for once without trouble following me? If it’s going to cause problems now, you might as well finish me off!
“Master, are you really all right?” Pei Hexuan asked with concern, pointing at the two bright streams of blood trickling from Bai Qianzhou’s nostrils.
Bai Qianzhou wiped his nose and grimaced at the bloodstains on his fingers.
Pei Hexuan pulled out two tissues and handed them over. Bai Qianzhou took them casually, wiped himself, and then returned to Bai Lu’s bedside.
