Chapter 37 Bai Jingcheng: What are you showing off for?
"As long as you agree, that’s fine. I’ll start by taking the accumulated merit from you. Besides, the righteous energy here is too overwhelming; it’s no good for your daughter. Since you’ve already seen her, I’ll take her with me as well.
"For the time being, I will keep her by my side to nurture her spirit. You just focus on cooperating with the police; once you pass away, spirits will be sent to bring you to me."
Bai Qianzhou reached out toward Song Zhao. Though he could not see his own golden aura of merit being stripped away, he felt as if he had suddenly lost something vital.
Song Zhao watched as Bai Qianzhou placed something into the small white gourd she held; a faint glimmer of gold could be seen flashing within it.
"Little Tiantian, shall we go with Big Sister?" Bai Qianzhou tucked the gourd away and waved at Song Tiantian.
Song Tiantian looked at Bai Qianzhou, then turned to look at Song Zhao with reluctance.
"Tiantian, you must listen to the Master. Be good and wait for Daddy to come find you, alright?" Song Zhao instructed his daughter, his eyes filled with unbearable longing.
"I understand, Daddy. I will be good and listen to Big Sister, and you must be good and listen to them too, okay?"
Though Song Tiantian was loath to leave her father, she knew she was too weak; if she stayed here any longer, she might fade away entirely. She could not bear the thought of her father being left alone.
"Don't worry, I will keep her with me until you arrive. I hope you will cooperate fully," Bai Qianzhou said to Song Zhao after securing Song Tiantian within a talisman.
"For Tiantian's sake, I will certainly cooperate. I entrust her care to you, Master." Song Zhao stood up and bowed respectfully to Bai Qianzhou.
Bai Qianzhou waved a hand dismissively.
"You can go in and question him now." As Bai Qianzhou emerged from the interrogation room, she saw Bai Jingcheng and the others, who wore expressions of bewilderment.
"Thank you. Wait outside for me a little longer; I'll take you to dinner once I'm finished here." Bai Jingcheng smiled at Bai Qianzhou, and she nodded obediently.
"How about that? My little sister is impressive, isn't she?" Pei Yanlin, standing behind Bai Qianzhou, boasted to Bai Jingcheng with a smug look on his face.
"What are you gloating about? Zhouzhou is my sister too, and we actually share a blood connection." Bai Jingcheng was unimpressed by Pei Yanlin's arrogance and rolled his eyes at him.
The smug look on Pei Yanlin's face froze instantly. Of course—Bai Qianzhou’s mother was Bai Lu, and Bai Lu was Bai Jingcheng’s own aunt. They were indeed related by blood.
"Pei Yanlin, aren't you coming?" Bai Qianzhou had walked a few steps away before turning back to look at the stunned Pei Yanlin.
"Coming." Shaking off his daze, Pei Yanlin felt a pang of frustration, yet he realized it didn't really matter. So what if they were related by blood? Wasn't Bai Qianzhou still his sister?
When Bai Jingcheng finished his work and stepped out of the interrogation room, the colleagues following him were still in a state of disbelief.
Was it really over just like that?
The suspect had remained silent during previous interrogations, yet in just half an hour, he had answered every question fluently. It was truly incredible.
When he reached the office area, he saw Bai Qianzhou surrounded by a crowd of colleagues, clutching a huge pile of snacks. He shook his head helplessly.
"Zhouzhou, do you think I'll have any good fortune with money this month?" a male colleague asked flatteringly, handing her several bags of potato chips with an expectant look.
"Little brother, money is hard to say, but you definitely have a romance blooming," Bai Qianzhou replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Little Zhouzhou, do you think there's a chance between me and our Captain Bai? He is just so handsome." A female colleague carefully tucked a few apples into Bai Qianzhou’s arms, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
