Chapter 61: The Shameless Always Triumph Over the Proud

“Why does the car keep dancing?”
“Could it be a car demon?”
“Look, it’s jumping around so happily.”
Xiao Qing, brimming with childlike curiosity, bombarded the other two with questions.
Li Changluo covered his face, at a loss for how to answer. What a simple and naive tomboy she was.
Meanwhile, Lord Long Qi seemed completely unfazed by Xiao Qing’s antics, his attention fixed solely on the dancing car.
Li Changluo knew that Long Qi had accepted a mission to capture a comic spirit, but as for the reward, the objective, or whether there were any hidden bonuses, Li Changluo knew nothing at all.
But what did watching a car shake in a parking lot have to do with comic spirits?
Such things were standard fare in every parking lot—nothing novel about them. In fact, some inventive players, always seeking a thrill, would even choose places like cinemas, classrooms, rooftops, or even the edge of a cliff.
People were forever innovating, risking their lives in pursuit of excitement.
The car gradually came to a halt, and everything fell quiet once more.
“Did it run out of gas?” Xiao Qing muttered.
“Please, I’m begging you, spare us—stop asking,” Li Changluo said awkwardly, wanting nothing more than to cover Xiao Qing’s mouth.
Peeping was the kind of thing you were supposed to do on the sly…
But Li Changluo’s heart sank as Xiao Qing boldly strode right up to the car.
She was peering through the window, trying to get a look inside.
Lord Long Qi’s face turned pale, staring blankly at Li Changluo.
Li Changluo could only smack his forehead in frustration.
Why get so close… Are you trying to learn how to dance?
At this point, they were practically exposed.
If the owner were a shy sort, they’d probably drive away in a puff of smoke.
If the owner were hot-tempered, they might come out and challenge you to a dance-off.
But what Li Changluo didn’t expect was that the car actually did emit a puff of smoke.
Smoke began billowing from the vehicle, thick and heavy.
From inside came the crackle of electricity—strange popping sounds.
Xiao Qing froze in fear, staring at Li Changluo in helpless confusion.
Seeing this, Li Changluo rushed over, grabbed Xiao Qing, and rolled them both to the ground.
The thick smoke continued to pour out from the car, growing ever denser.
Yet as Li Changluo shielded Xiao Qing and threw himself to the ground, they waited for what felt like ages…
But nothing happened as expected…

Where was the explosion?
Where was the rolling smoke?
Nothing happened at all.
From his vantage in the distance, Lord Long Qi stared in disbelief.
What on earth were these two doing? Putting on a show?
But just then, from the smoke-filled car, a sheet of paper drifted out through a crack in the window.
This paper looked like one of those little talismanic paper figures, only much larger—about the size of a real person.
It floated out through the window, twisting and writhing like a snake, darting quickly through the air in a bid to escape.
Lord Long Qi reacted first, giving chase.
“Get up and help!” Xiao Qing urged Li Changluo.
“With a powerhouse handling the mission, there’s no need to work so hard,” Li Changluo replied, perfectly content to shelter Xiao Qing in his arms and watch Lord Long Qi chase after the paper man.
Li Changluo had never felt compelled to change his lazy, easygoing approach to life.
Winning effortlessly—what a pleasure.
Of course, if you have a diligent teammate, laziness is not an option.
Xiao Qing was that diligent teammate. She hefted Li Changluo onto her shoulder and joined the pursuit of the paper figure.
Li Changluo, like a parcel, let Xiao Qing manhandle him.
He swayed back and forth, perfectly content in her care.
What a sight it was…
Damn, what a carefree life.
Damn, am I a giant baby?
Damn, I wish I could run on my own.
They chased after Lord Long Qi out of the underground parking lot.
But before they’d even left the lot, the paper man fled back toward them, drifting through the gloom toward Li Changluo and Xiao Qing.
In the dim parking lot, the sight of a paper figure floating through the air was downright eerie.
Li Changluo could understand girls being afraid—after all, it was natural—but he’d never met someone as simply and unpretentiously timid as Xiao Qing.
He couldn’t help but wonder: have you ever seen someone so afraid of cockroaches…
…that they’d throw a living person at one?
Li Changluo, still slung over Xiao Qing’s shoulder, was hurled at the paper figure as if he were just another object.
What annoyed him most was—
He didn’t even hit the thing.

He rolled awkwardly across the ground several times before coming to a stop.
“I’m sorry,” Xiao Qing said, covering her face and not daring to look at Li Changluo.
Li Changluo felt as if his whole body was falling apart. All he wanted now was to get as far away from this super-strong girl as possible.
He’d rather face an enemy in honorable combat than die at the hands of his own ally.
The paper man deftly dodged both Xiao Qing and Li Changluo, preparing to flee again.
But as it floated mid-air, it suddenly froze, as if caught in a still frame.
Li Changluo stared for a long moment before noticing a thin, nearly translucent thread, finer than a hair, attached to the paper man’s leg.
The other end of the thread led to Lord Long Qi’s returning zither.
Cradling his instrument, Lord Long Qi plucked a string lightly, and in an instant, the paper figure was dragged before him.
He reached out, squeezed the paper man’s neck, and it instantly crumpled like wrinkled paper, slowly dissolving into a single page that fluttered to the floor.
The page was identical to the one Li Changluo had found before.
With a subtle gesture, Lord Long Qi summoned the page into his hand.
“Let go,” he said, his gaze sharp as a blade, his tone icy and commanding.
“I said let go, did you hear me? What’s a girl doing being scared of a paper figure? Have some backbone! How will you ever get married if you’re like this?” Li Changluo snapped, glaring fiercely at Xiao Qing, who was clutching the hem of his shirt from behind.
“I’m scared,” Xiao Qing replied, giving Li Changluo a pitiful look.
“I was talking to you. Let go,” Lord Long Qi said coldly, his face frosty as ever, though inwardly he was cursing in frustration.
This little rascal was shameless—thick-skinned and impossible to deal with.
Without a word, Li Changluo was trying to snatch the comic page from Lord Long Qi’s hand, acting as if it were his by right and preparing to stuff it into his own bag.
The scene was painfully awkward.
Li Changluo shamelessly examined the comic book page over and over before finally letting go, flashing a cheeky grin at Lord Long Qi.
Lord Long Qi’s face turned a shade of green—when had he ever been toyed with like this?
He could have taught this little scoundrel a lesson, but as a true member of the demon clan, he considered it beneath him.
Those who value their dignity are always at the mercy of those who have none.
