Chapter 95: Queen Kevelin
As soon as Lin Wei said this, the atmosphere around them stiffened at once.
The several princes, in particular, all changed color at once. Their expressions were indescribably strange, as though each were waiting for something, yet all of them were holding themselves back with great effort.
Lin Wei glanced at them and gave a faint, mocking smile.
“I think…” Hudson also swept his gaze across them.
When the princes met his eyes, they all instinctively lowered their heads. Their gazes were flustered, yet burning with an intense desire.
Hudson let out a soft sigh. In their eyes, he saw not the slightest concern for him as their father.
At last, Hudson fixed his gaze on Kevelyn.
She froze for a moment, then forced a smile.
“Kevelyn…” Hudson suddenly spoke. His words startled the princes, princesses, and even several queens; disbelief spread across their faces. “Kevelyn, let her be the ruler of the Kingdom of Leyton…”
“Are you sure?”
Lin Wei looked down at Hudson from above.
A tremendous sense of humiliation surged through Hudson’s heart. Was he sure? He was too unwilling to be sure! Although the other princes were not Hudson’s favored choice for crown prince, they were still barely acceptable in a practical sense. Kevelyn was different. If she took the throne, she would become the first queen in the history of the Kingdom of Leyton. Hudson, who had been steeped since childhood in the ideas of imperial rule, rejected this decision from the depths of his heart.
But under Lin Wei’s pressure, he still yielded. Hudson knew that even if he did not choose Kevelyn, Lin Wei would still forcibly carry out his own will. By then, Hudson would not even have room to beg for mercy. He would probably be erased from this world without a sound together with the new heir. Rather than that, it was better to go along with Lin Wei’s wishes first and leave himself a shred of hope for survival.
At this moment, Hudson had lost his position and his dignity, yet his will to live remained fierce. And if he wanted to live, he had to keep Lin Wei pleased.
“I am sure, Lord Lin Wei.” Hudson forced out a stiff smile.
Lin Wei looked at him with a faint, unreadable expression, then turned to Kevelyn. “Congratulations, Your Highness Kevelyn. No, Your Majesty Kevelyn…”
The instant Lin Wei spoke these words, everything was settled.
The first queen in the history of the Kingdom of Leyton had been born.
...
King Hudson abdicates; Queen Kevelyn ascends the throne!
The news was like a bomb of immense power, setting the entire Kingdom of Leyton ablaze.
Although the common people below debated it endlessly and opinions differed, the opposite was true among the nobility: the entire aristocratic class fell silent, expressing their loyalty to Queen Kevelyn through their actions. Every noble understood clearly that the being who had created this situation was beyond their power to shake, and they could only remain silent.
The royal palace.
Lin Wei lounged with his whole body sunk into a broad, soft chair, his head tilted back slightly, eyes closed.
Kevelyn wore a sheer gauze dress and stood pressed against his back. Her slender fingers rested on his shoulders, kneading them gently.
No one could have imagined that the first Queen Kevelyn in the history of the Kingdom of Leyton would be serving a young man like a maid.
“How is it? Any resistance?”
Lin Wei opened his eyes and touched the back of Kevelyn’s hand, signaling her to stop.
It had been five or six days since Brent was killed. Under Lin Wei’s coercion, Hudson had been forced to submit, and Kevelyn had ascended to the throne as queen. The royal family’s disappearance crisis had been completely resolved, and Lin Wei finally let out a breath of relief. Although he had felt as if he were controlling everything during the process of dealing with Brent, the pressure had also been immense. Until then, he had not known how powerful the enemy truly was, nor how many enemies there were. He could only advance step by step with the help of the intelligent core.
Now that the dust had settled, Lin Wei did not mind taking a few days to recover. After all, the time limit on the mission still had a long while left, and the Blood Fang Shadow had not yet launched its surprise attack. Remaining in the Kingdom of Leyton to cultivate quietly was not a bad outcome.
As for the wizard’s hidden treasure Brent had mentioned, Lin Wei was indeed eager to uncover it as soon as possible, but reason told him that he needed to wait. Although Brent had told him the location of the hidden treasure before dying, Lin Wei had no idea what lay within it. He could not be certain whether there were unexpected dangers inside, and so he intended to prepare thoroughly before seeking out the wizard’s treasure.
Kevelyn lazily stretched, and the innocence she once possessed had already become mature. Under Lin Wei’s “cultivation,” she was increasingly like a ripe peach.
“There wasn’t much resistance. Under your renown, everyone is actively clearing the way for me…” Kevelyn rested her chin on Lin Wei’s shoulder like an obedient kitten.
Lin Wei smiled faintly and slowly stroked her silky hair.
“What about Hudson?” Lin Wei asked suddenly.
Before Brent died, Lin Wei had agreed to imprison Hudson for life. Though he was selfish, when it came to promised exchanges of interest among wizards, he still made every effort to fulfill them.
“Father has been placed under house arrest at Lord Bansani’s estate.” Kevelyn’s voice was subdued. Toward Hudson, she still held very deep feelings. If she had been able to choose, she might not even have wanted to ascend the throne.
Lin Wei moved Kevelyn’s head away from his shoulder and slowly stood up.
“Go outside first. I need some time alone. Without my permission, do not let anyone in before tonight. Not even Bansani.”
Lin Wei ordered her.
“Yes, my lord.”
Though there was already an intimate relationship between them, his command still made Kevelyn obey without resistance. In front of Lin Wei, she was more like a female slave.
“Oh, right. Come by late tonight, and bring the maid named Nienya.” Lin Wei suddenly stopped Kevelyn and ordered.
Kevelyn paused and asked, “The maid who served you last night?”
Lin Wei only nodded and did not continue speaking.
“Understood, my lord.” Kevelyn bowed slightly.
She casually took a robe from the wall and wrapped it around herself, her graceful body concealed at once. Barefoot, she slowly retreated, then quietly withdrew and closed the door behind her.
“The condensation of the fourth rune fragment will still take some time…” In the empty room, Lin Wei murmured to himself. “Since advancing to the level of second-rank wizard apprentice, even with the core’s aid, the growth of my spiritual power has become noticeably slower. It is truly hard to imagine what kind of wizard’s hidden treasure could turn a mortal like Brent into a third-rank wizard apprentice in only two years… This treasure is probably anything but simple…”
