Chapter 91: Brent Arrives
"Bind!" Bansaini quickly cast a spell, seeing the situation unfold. A verdant green vine burst from the ground, wrapping tightly around Brent.
"Blood..." Lin Wei stared at the splattering crimson, and a new idea suddenly sprang to his mind. He strode swiftly to Hudson, slashed at Hudson's neck, extracting a drop of blood, then collected the blood Brent had spilled onto Hudson.
"Lin Wei, what are you..." Bansaini was at a loss.
Lin Wei ignored him, instead commanding the intelligent sphere core, "Core, analyze and compare these two blood samples. Determine if there is any biological kinship between them!"
"Analyzing... Analysis complete..."
"The two blood samples do not possess any biologically meaningful kinship."
Lin Wei smiled softly, a resolute aura emanating from him. "As I suspected."
"Lin Wei?" Bansaini called out again, still confused. He had already suspected Brent was the mastermind behind everything, but he never imagined Brent would attempt to assassinate Hudson right in front of him and Lin Wei, nor that the sorcerous forces behind Brent would remain inactive.
"It's coming..." Suddenly, Lin Wei turned his gaze toward the door, sensing that it was about to open, heralding the arrival of a new guest.
"Coming? Who?" Bansaini looked at Lin Wei, bewildered.
Lin Wei fixed his eyes on the door, standing straight and unwavering. "Brent is coming."
Brent is coming?!
Not only was Bansaini stunned, but even Hudson, still bound, was dumbfounded, as were Kavelin and the others, their faces frozen in shock. They had barely processed Brent's attempt on Hudson's life, and now Lin Wei claimed Brent was arriving? What was going on?
Lin Wei glanced at the unconscious 'Brent', who had fainted from blood loss. "This one is not Brent; he is merely a substitute Brent found. From the very beginning, he was a puppet—a decoy meant to mislead us."
"What..." Everyone present felt overwhelmed; none could follow Lin Wei's line of reasoning.
Clap, clap, clap!
A crisp applause rang out from beyond the castle door, undiminished by walls or barriers.
Creak.
The castle doors opened. A slender figure appeared before them. Backlit by the sunlight, the young man's shape was indistinct, yet an immense pressure seemed to radiate from him.
He took several steps forward, allowing everyone to finally see him clearly.
The young man's face was slightly pale, his eyes gleaming with undisguised amusement, lips curled into a faint smile. He wore a black cloak, his demeanor embodying nobility and grace.
Everyone present stared wide-eyed, Kavelin even rubbing her eyes as if unable to believe what she saw.
This young man looked exactly like the unconscious 'Brent' lying on the floor.
"Greetings, Mr. Lin Wei."
The young man gave Lin Wei a slight bow, performing a perfect aristocratic salute.
Lin Wei smiled in return, bowing back lightly. "Greetings, Your Highness Brent!"
Brent?! This was the real Brent?!
Hudson's eyes seemed ready to burst; his face was a mixture of disbelief, terror, and confusion.
When Lin Wei met 'Brent' earlier, he couldn't understand why a third-level sorcerer apprentice would aid a mere mortal prince. He had also suspected 'Brent' might possess extraordinary sorcerous power himself, which would explain the presence of the third-level sorcerer apprentice behind him.
So, as soon as 'Brent' entered Bansaini's castle, Lin Wei used the intelligent sphere core to scan his physical data. The results disappointed him. The highly suspicious 'Brent' turned out to be nothing more than an ordinary human.
That line of reasoning was cut off, leaving Lin Wei unable to unravel the logic. Only when 'Brent' attacked Hudson did the truth begin to dawn on him.
At the moment the blood splattered, Lin Wei instinctively considered a possibility.
If the third-level sorcerer apprentice was a stranger, he would never be controlled by Brent, nor become a tool for royal vengeance. But if the apprentice was Brent himself? Then everything would fall into place.
The masked woman who ambushed Lin Wei, the release and spread of the secret about the sorcerer's hidden treasures, the disappearance of the queen and princes who had conflicts with Brent's mother...
All the clues fit perfectly under this hypothesis!
"Mr. Lin Wei, how did you discover my true identity?" Brent smiled courteously, his gentle manner that of the most refined gentleman.
Lin Wei certainly did not reveal the truth, for it involved secrets of the intelligent sphere core. He looked at Brent and retorted, "Why did you orchestrate the royal disappearance?"
He spoke casually, not expecting Brent to answer.
Yet Brent sighed softly, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes quickly concealed. "For my mother."
As soon as Brent spoke, Hudson, bound tightly, shuddered. Something seemed to have dawned on him; his body trembled uncontrollably, and he stared at Brent with renewed terror—and a trace of guilt.
"As I thought," Lin Wei's gaze was calm.
"In those days, I witnessed all the rejection and torment my mother endured. Her despair, her tears, those heartbreaking scenes are etched in my memory." Brent's tone was eerily quiet, as if recounting a story wholly unrelated to himself.
"My father's queens, relying on their powerful families, continually oppressed my mother. Perhaps such suffering is inevitable for those born into royalty. I used to complain to my mother about the injustice, but she told me to forget it all."
"I followed her advice. Like her, I believed that if we endured long enough, everything would be alright." Now, Brent's eyes finally revealed a trace of sorrow. "Until... those two vile women used my mother as a pawn in their scheming!"
Brent spoke through gritted teeth, his eyes nearly bursting with bloodshot fury. An overwhelming aura emanated from him; save for Lin Wei and Bansaini, everyone else shivered, their breath growing labored under its weight.
