Chapter 131: Scene Reenactment
“Played for a fool!”
Bugawi and Hammond, seeing the situation unfold, finally grasped the full story.
This so-called trap-triggering fellow was nothing more than a pawn, a fool being manipulated.
“Hammond, you go after that guy. I’ll deal with this green-robed sorcerer!”
Though Lin Wei and Narens were not on friendly terms, it did not change the fact that both belonged to the Shadow Forest faction.
“Got it!”
Without hesitation, Hammond glanced at Narens before turning to pursue Lin Wei.
“Are you ready to meet death?”
Bugawi looked down on Narens, who was leaning against a tree trunk, with disdain.
“That’s the question I should be asking you!”
Narens, without any support, suddenly rose in an eerie motion.
“Something’s off...” Bugawi immediately dropped his guard and looked at Narens with newfound caution.
Crack, crack, crack!
The white bones within Narens transformed into sharp spikes, piercing through his skin like bamboo shoots breaking through the earth. In a single breath, Narens was entirely encased.
His clothes tore apart, revealing a monstrous skeleton-like figure.
Narens’s fingernails and toenails became sharp needles; three gleaming horns sprouted from his head. From his waist emerged a tail resembling a fish’s backbone, swaying lightly.
“Who exactly should prepare for death now?”
Narens’s voice rumbled from within the skeletal beast, his eyes behind translucent membranes flashing with deadly intent.
...
“These two seem quite ambitious. Not only do they want to take out Narens, but they also want to keep me around...” Lin Wei quickly sensed Hammond closing in from behind.
Though Lin Wei wished to kill Narens, he had to admit the man’s strength was formidable and nearly matched his own.
With a scrape, Lin Wei’s foot dug into the ground, the sound of his shoe sole rubbing against sand filling the air.
He stopped, smiled at the approaching Hammond, and said, “Neither of you can keep me, let alone one alone.”
Hammond sneered, ignoring Lin Wei’s words, and retorted mockingly, “Is there still a trap?”
“I don’t need a trap to keep you here for good.”
In an instant, Lin Wei launched his attack.
A wave of black sand swirled and engulfed Hammond.
“Is this the only trick you have?” Hammond extended a single hand, unleashing an invisible force field around Lin Wei.
Lin Wei suddenly felt his body sink.
“Controlling the gravity of this space?” Lin Wei’s movements and the speed of the black sand slowed.
“Physical magic will always be suppressed by me!”
Hammond laughed recklessly and surged forward. A green glow appeared in his palm, forming a water-membrane-encased orb that radiated a strong corrosive aura.
“His talents are so erratic...” Lin Wei pressed forward instead of retreating, unleashing his full potential to confront Hammond.
“To move so swiftly under a gravity field? I sense no magic countering gravity... How terrifying must his physical body be?!”
Hammond immediately realized Lin Wei was a formidable opponent.
Lin Wei’s right hand was sheathed in a black blade.
“Planning to take me down with you?” Hammond snorted coldly. “The gravity field may hinder you, but it only empowers me!”
His eyes locked onto Lin Wei’s gaze.
“Hm?” He faintly saw two light halos appear in Lin Wei’s pupils.
“Not good!” Hammond instantly recognized the emergence of psychic magic. “Someone who practices both?!”
No wonder Hammond was unprepared. Psychic magic was demanding and energy-draining. Practitioners of psychic magic rarely combined it with other magical disciplines, and vice versa.
But it was too late. Hammond’s consciousness began to waver.
He struggled fiercely but to no avail.
The corrosive green water orb he controlled disintegrated, and the gravity field vanished in an instant.
Lin Wei’s blade sliced through, and Hammond’s head was severed in a flash.
His skull tumbled like a ball, finally coming to rest against the tree trunk.
The severed head lay on the ground, a satisfied smile curling its lips—a chilling sight.
“Did he see something worth reminiscing about?”
Lin Wei felt a faint chill from his military merit card, knowing he had gained another thirty points.
“Shouldn’t I be thanked?”
Raising an eyebrow, Lin Wei cast his gaze toward the place where Narens and Bugawi were battling. “Perhaps... I can snatch some points there too?”
...
“Is a third-level apprentice of the Fanged Blood Shadow really this fragile?!”
The skeletal beast form of Narens used one arm to trap Bugawi’s throat against a tree.
Crack, crack!
Bugawi’s throat bones crushed under the pressure, blood spilling from the corner of his mouth. Fear shone in his eyes as he looked at Narens. If given a choice, he would rather chase after the fleeing man than face this seemingly dying monster.
Though Narens had fully subdued Bugawi, his injuries were severe.
The white bone armor covering his body was cracked in several places, with a hole in his chest exposing red flesh beneath. Blood dripped down his skeletal exterior, and even his tail was broken halfway.
Madness and fury burned in Narens’s eyes. “How about it? Are you the one who should prepare for death?”
“Not just you. That Lin Wei guy has to die too!”
Narens clenched his teeth tightly, emitting a sharp creak.
“Die!”
Narens’s palm suddenly surged with force.
“Danger!” Just as he was about to crush Bugawi, a shadow flashed rapidly toward him from the corner of his eye.
Narens swiftly dodged.
It was a jet-black blade.
Swoosh!
Another black thin blade slashed across Bugawi’s throat.
“Does this scene look familiar?” Lin Wei appeared before Narens.
Despite Narens’s drastic transformation, Lin Wei recognized him by the magical aura radiating from his body.
“You!!” Narens’s teeth seemed on the verge of shattering.
It was exactly like when he tried to steal Lin Wei’s thirty points!
A deep sense of humiliation filled Narens’s chest. His right fist, a white bony claw, clenched tightly, ready to unleash a devastating blow on Lin Wei at any moment.
“What? Didn’t you say you wanted to kill me just now?” Lin Wei stepped forward unperturbed, a mocking gleam in his eyes. “But I’m curious—how will you explain all this to Lord Kibber afterward?”
A threat. An unashamed, blatant threat.
