Chapter 17: The Junior Sister Really Knows How to Ramble
Xiao Baidao’s eyes were bloodshot as he stuffed a pill into Feng Xi’s mouth.
This was the Nine-Transformation Resurrection Pill he had treasured for years, originally intended for emergencies. Now, there was no time to hesitate—saving his disciple was paramount!
Unaware of the pill’s value, and still “dazed,” Feng Xi could only swallow it.
Once the pill entered her stomach, she immediately felt the three spiritual roots in her dantian desperately stretching outward, as if trying to peek out.
Feng Xi: “...Is this a spiritual root? No, it’s more like a dog seeing a meaty bone!”
Most of the pill’s essence was absorbed by the three spiritual roots, while the remainder was taken in by her meridians.
A warm, indescribable comfort spread through Feng Xi’s body.
The comfort was so overwhelming that she... truly fainted.
When Feng Xi woke up, she was already lying in her own bed.
Her frustration was beyond words!
“Disciple, you’re awake? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Xiao Baidao asked with genuine concern.
Feng Xi shook her head. “Master, I’m fine. What about Fifth Senior Brother?”
Xiao Baidao snorted coldly. “Still unconscious! It’s astonishing how he always acts so arrogant but turns out to be a blockhead with far less courage than you!
“By the way, was this all caused by him? It must have been his whim to take you to the mine tunnel that got you into such danger...”
Feng Xi, who often ran away from home, happened to have her conscience at the moment and explained, “Master, it wasn’t Fifth Senior Brother’s fault. It was my curiosity that forced him to take me.”
Xiao Baidao didn’t believe her at all. “Don’t cover for him. You’re a good child—you wouldn’t make such a request.”
“Master, it really was me...” Feng Xi began.
Xiao Baidao coaxed her, “Alright, alright, it was you. Master believes you.”
Feng Xi thought silently, Fifth Senior Brother, I really tried my best!
Yet she was grateful that Jun Wen was clever enough to feign unconsciousness, buying time and seeking a chance to exchange information.
What none knew was that Jun Wen’s actions were not to cooperate with her but out of... embarrassment.
When recalling what he had done in front of Xue Tianjue, he wished he could disappear from the world!
It was utterly humiliating!
The little junior sister shamelessly, but he had pride!
Feng Xi insisted on visiting Jun Wen, and Xiao Baidao’s attempts to stop her failed. Since Feng Xi appeared only a little weak without serious injury, he relented.
Feng Xi and Jun Wen’s courtyards were very close, separated by only three yards.
When Feng Xi entered, Jun Wen was still “unconscious.”
Xiao Baidao snorted coldly: “Useless fellow! There wasn’t a scratch on him, yet he looks half-dead—probably scared out of his wits.”
Jun Wen’s eyelashes twitched slightly, but he held his silence.
Feng Xi hurriedly said, “Master, you wrong Fifth Senior Brother! He was very brave. If he hadn’t risked his life to save me, I’d have been crushed by a rock or strangled by that old demon Xue Tianjue.”
Xiao Baidao did care for Jun Wen; it was just that he was frustrated with his lack of progress.
Hearing Feng Xi’s words, his expression softened.
“Disciple, tell your master what exactly happened.”
Jun Wen, lying stiffly, wished he could cover his ears because the memories he had intentionally buried—calling the old demon “sir,” saluting him, even volunteering to be a spy for the demon clan—would be uncovered.
Though all false, they were still hard to admit!
Then, he heard Feng Xi say:
“Master, that old demon Xue Tianjue threatened and tempted us, greatly underestimating me and Fifth Senior Brother!
“I might be one thing, but Fifth Senior Brother has always followed your teachings, dedicating himself to eradicating demons and protecting the Way. There’s no way he would submit to the demon clan!
“The old demon, seeing our defiance, tried to torture us.
“Fifth Senior Brother, knowing my body was weak, deliberately provoked the old demon to attract his hatred.
“The old demon didn’t torture me but subjected Fifth Senior Brother to inhuman torment.
“I heard the old demon mention some demon clan punishment that leaves no visible wounds but causes unbearable pain.
“That’s why Fifth Senior Brother is still unconscious—not out of fear, but from the punishment before...”
Xiao Baidao looked at Jun Wen with pride and tenderness:
“Though this kid is stubborn, his nature is good.”
Jun Wen lay there speechless, emotions too complex for words.
One moment you scold me for cowardice, the next you praise me?
Whether I’m good or bad seems to depend entirely on what little junior sister says!
Feng Xi continued, “The old demon, seeing us refuse to yield and wanting to escape quickly, took us as hostages and fled from the second level of the mine tunnel.
“I knew if he escaped, it would bring endless disaster to humanity, so despite the risk of shattering my dantian, I launched a surprise attack on him...”
Jun Wen’s handsome face on the bed turned crimson with embarrassment.
The little junior sister really could spin a tale!
I was ready to die defiantly, but she doesn’t seem to have that resolve at all!
Xiao Baidao, however, believed her wholeheartedly, nodding repeatedly. Both his junior disciples had not disappointed him—they were pillars of the human race!
At this moment, Feng Xi lowered her voice and said, “Master, is now a good time to talk?”
Xiao Baidao was taken aback but said, “Don’t worry, speak freely!”
Even so, Feng Xi staggered to the door, peered cautiously around, then sneaked back in with a furtive look.
Xiao Baidao: “...”
“Master, I guessed something from the old demon’s words—there are still spirit stones in the abandoned spirit stone mine on the East Peak!
“Possibly even high-grade spirit stones!
“Because when the old demon threatened us, he took out a lot of high-grade spirit stones and said he had as many as we wanted.
“Think about it: he’s been trapped underground for over a hundred years, surely his spirit stones would have been exhausted long ago. How could he still have so many high-grade spirit stones?
“Besides, he’s lively and well; if there wasn’t something attracting him inside the mine, he would have escaped by now.
“Master, this is confidential. Please find an excuse to excavate there. If we find something, it’s a joyous surprise; if not, no harm done.”
Xiao Baidao’s first thought was: impossible!
According to the sect’s ancient texts, when the spirit stone mine was declared depleted, they deliberately dug several fathoms deeper and used spirit instruments to confirm no spiritual energy remained, then gave up entirely.
And now he’s being told there’s a high-grade spirit stone mine beneath?
How could that be?!
Yet seeing his junior disciple so determined, a glimmer of hope stirred within him.
Very well!
Digging won’t hurt, and what if they really find something?
With this on his mind, Xiao Baidao gave Feng Xi a few instructions and hurried away.
As soon as he left, Jun Wen opened his eyes immediately.
“Little junior sister, how can you lie to Master like that?!”
Feng Xi glanced at him. “Then you go tell Master that not only did we flatter the old demon, but we also pretended to agree to be demon clan spies.”
Jun Wen: “...Little junior sister, sometimes, I think it’s better to tell a little white lie.”
