They drove until noon, when a sudden torrential downpour delayed them.

Tang Yuan gazed at the sky, which had darkened in an instant, and felt uneasy. The rain was coming down far too heavily. They had already entered the county town and would soon reach the hotel where the production crew was staying.

She pulled over by the roadside and found an umbrella to hold over herself. Unexpectedly, she ran into Song Qianqian again the moment she reached the lobby.

Director Chen’s drama was also filming here, and the two production crews had happened to arrive at the same time.

Song Qianqian had looked listless until she saw Tang Yuan. Then she glared viciously at her.

“Why are you haunting me everywhere you go?!”

Tang Yuan ignored her. This was the finest hotel in the county town, and it had already been booked by both production crews. Director Chen’s crew was on the third floor, while Director Zhang’s crew was on the fourth.

Tang Yuan and Fu Yansheng entered the elevator, and Song Qianqian squeezed in after them.

Seeing the hostility in the air, everyone else decided not to get on.

As the elevator began to rise, Song Qianqian rolled her eyes.

“Don’t think that just because you know Brother Zhou’s wife, I’ll let you off. Sooner or later, I’ll succeed in taking your place. Do you believe that the day after tomorrow, on their wedding anniversary, Brother Zhou will still come to my bed and keep me company?”

Tang Yuan thought Song Qianqian was rather impressive. She had actually managed to keep Shen Zhou hanging for two years.

Still, Shen Zhou probably had more than one lover outside. Xie Mo had even mentioned last time that there was a female company president with whom he had spent a single night. Tang Yuan simply had no idea who she was.

When the elevator reached the third floor, Song Qianqian delivered her threat. Receiving no response from Tang Yuan, she assumed the woman was frightened. With a cold snort, she stepped out.

Tang Yuan and Fu Yansheng continued to the fourth floor.

Fu Yansheng lowered his eyes and studied her expression.

She did not seem affected at all, merely searching carefully for the room number.

Once they entered the room, they found that the hotel in this county town was reasonably well equipped. That evening, everyone would hold one final script reading before heading into the mountains.

The actors would spend the next month there.

Tang Yuan looked toward the dark, heavy sky outside. She had planned to leave after bringing Fu Yansheng to the hotel, but the rain was far too heavy now.

Fu Yansheng silently opened his suitcase and began taking out the things he had packed.

Tang Yuan sighed. “I suppose we’ll have to wait for the rain to stop.”

If the weather had been clear, she could have reached Water Moon Bay by six in the evening. But with the rain falling like this, she could not set out.

Fu Yansheng lowered his lashes. “Then leave a little later.”

Tang Yuan sat to one side.

“You’re going into the mountains tomorrow, so you need to be careful about what you eat. And make sure you get along with the senior members of the crew. Stop looking so cold all the time. Also, prepare your stomach medicine and fever reducers. I bought everything for you, so remember to take it all with you. You’ll be staying in the mountains for a month. I’m worried about you.”

He was her only artist and her future source of wealth. Naturally, she had to keep a close eye on him.

The corners of Fu Yansheng’s lips curved faintly. Then she continued, “If you feel unwell at any point, remember to call me. Yansheng, are you listening carefully?”

“Mm.”

The rain outside was deafening. A side window had been left open, and the curtains inside the room billowed in the wind.

Someone knocked on the door from the corridor, saying that it was time to begin the final script reading.

Tang Yuan went to open the door. When the man outside saw her face, a flash of astonishment crossed his eyes.

The person who had come knocking was the male lead of the production—the actor the television drama was intended to promote.

His gaze clung to Tang Yuan’s face, and his cheeks instantly reddened.

“Which actress are you? You’re so beautiful. How come I’ve never seen you before?”

Could it be that she had not become famous yet?

With looks like hers, that hardly seemed possible.

Tang Yuan took a step back, and Fu Yansheng came out of the room.

“I’ll go ahead, then,” he said in an indifferent tone.

She nodded and could only wait alone in the room, hoping the rain outside would stop soon.

Even after the male lead had walked away with Fu Yansheng, he kept turning back to look at her. His thoughts began to wander.

What a beautiful woman. Could she be that young man’s manager?

Were managers these days really such alluring creatures?

“Hey, you’re Fu Yansheng, the male second lead this time, right? You can call me Brother Duan.”

The investor for this production was a wealthy woman, though no one knew which wealthy woman she was. She was investing in the drama solely to promote this male lead.

Brother Duan was reasonably handsome. He moved a little closer to Fu Yansheng.

“The person in the room just now was your manager? Have you slept with her? You know, this sort of thing is perfectly normal in show business. If you can persuade her to come with me, I’ll make sure to include you in the next television drama I appear in.”

Thinking of Tang Yuan’s figure, heat flickered in Brother Duan’s eyes.

She was truly beautiful—elegant, dignified, and striking. If she entered show business, what chance would anyone else have?

Fu Yansheng lifted his eyes but said nothing.

Brother Duan’s expression darkened.

“She’s only a woman. You’re not actually unwilling to give her up, are you?”

How could this man be so tactless? A shadow passed through his eyes.

He had been struggling in show business for many years without ever becoming popular. Recently, he had finally managed to win the favor of a wealthy woman, who was willing to invest heavily in this television drama for him. Once it aired, he would become a major star. Everyone knew they should be rushing to curry favor with him now.

Yet this man actually dared to refuse him.

Furious, he ground his teeth. Song Qianqian happened to witness the entire scene.

Her eyes shifted, and the corners of her lips lifted.

“Brother Duan, you’ve taken a liking to that manager?”

She had known Brother Duan before, though they were not close.

Brother Duan swallowed. “You have a way?”

Song Qianqian took a packet of medicine from her bag, triumph gleaming in her eyes.

“Of course I do. As long as she drinks this, you can do whatever you want with her tonight.”

“Wouldn’t that be a little inappropriate?”

Song Qianqian raised a hand and patted him on the chest.

“She’s just a powerless manager. With a face like that, isn’t she meant to be played with? Besides, Fu Yansheng isn’t famous either. What are you afraid of? Don’t you have someone backing you?”

Brother Duan took the packet, a smile spreading across his lips.

“All right, Qianqian. I never would have guessed you carried something like this around with you.”

Song Qianqian sneered. She had wanted to cause trouble for that woman, Tessa, for a long time.

Originally, she had planned to throw the wretch to the director to play with. Since someone had now volunteered to make a move, it suited her perfectly.

She still remembered that slap.

Tang Yuan waited in the room for half an hour before someone knocked on the door. It was a hotel employee delivering dinner.

She took the tray and set it on the dining table.

Judging by the rain, it would not stop for at least two hours. If she went home too late, Shen Zhou would probably ask questions.

She lowered her head and poked at the food in her bowl, feeling increasingly irritated. In the end, she drank only a glass of juice and did not touch her chopsticks.
