Chapter 21: Shen Zhou Is Not More Important Than You
Early the next morning, Tang Yuan drove over to see Fu Yansheng.
She knocked on the old door for a long time, but no one answered. Just as she was about to call him, the door opened from the inside.
Fu Yansheng was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt. One side of his cheek was flushed, looking as if he had been struck. Tang Yuan’s brows furrowed tightly as her gaze swept across the courtyard; it was in complete disarray, littered with the remnants of a struggle.
"What happened?"
A glimmer of moisture flickered in his dark eyes. "Nothing."
Tang Yuan took a deep breath and grabbed his arm, pulling him inside. When she had visited the day before, the place had seemed small but neat and clean. Today, every piece of furniture was overturned; the only cup he owned lay shattered in pieces, and there wasn't a single item left intact.
A dark look crossed her face. Seeing that he had no intention of telling the truth, she turned to walk out.
Fu Yansheng hesitated for a few seconds before blurting out, "A group of people came last night. I don't know who they were."
He spoke as if he feared that if he were a second late, Tang Yuan would leave him behind. She halted her steps and turned back to look at him.
There was a fine sheen of sweat on his forehead; it was clear his injuries were more than superficial. She righted a nearby sofa. "Sit down. Let me check you over."
He stiffened, then slowly sat down. Tang Yuan pulled up his shirt, revealing his chest.
What met her eyes were not just wounds, but a striking set of abdominal muscles, a V-taper, and the physique of a standard fitness model. With broad shoulders and a narrow waist, even his skin looked surprisingly delicate.
Her fingertips felt a sudden heat, and she realized her actions were perhaps a bit improper. Meanwhile, the tips of his ears turned bright red in an instant. He pressed his lips together tightly before turning his head away in a gesture of resignation, clutching the hem of his shirt with one hand like a virtuous man who had been violated.
Tang Yuan cleared her throat, forcing herself to focus on the visible bruises on his chest. "Does it hurt anywhere else?"
She pressed gently on the bruised areas and looked up at him. "Are any of your ribs broken?"
His breathing quickened, and his grip on his shirt tightened. "No."
Tang Yuan let out a sigh of relief and stood up straight. "Pack your things. We’re moving. You can't stay here anymore."
He slowly let his shirt fall, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. "Where to?"
"I’ve arranged a place for you—a refined little villa with strict security. Even when you become famous in the future, you can keep living there. At the very least, you won't have to deal with being followed or getting into fights."
He hesitated for a few seconds before asking softly, "Won't... your husband be angry?"
It took Tang Yuan a moment to realize he had misunderstood, and she couldn't help but laugh, finding him inexplicably adorable.
"It’s not my husband’s property; it’s my brother’s. Even though my brother is stern and rarely smiles, he treats me quite well. Besides, he owns so many properties that he wouldn't care about this one."
He lowered his lashes and stood up. "I see."
Tang Yuan watched his back and sighed. He didn't seem to have many belongings; in just ten minutes, he emerged carrying only a backpack and a suitcase. His hair was slightly disheveled, and as he gripped the backpack, the muscles in his arms rippled beneath his skin. His eyes, dark as lacquer, were exceptionally beautiful. With a face like that, he had the capital to "commit crimes" with his looks wherever he went.
Tang Yuan told him to get in the car and drove to the villa. It was perfectly located in the heart of the capital, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold. It was clear that when Tang Shangxu gave her the keys, he had chosen with great care. The villa was exquisite, with two floors and a well-tended garden; Tang Shangxu had even had it renovated beforehand.
Dressed in all black, Fu Yansheng showed no sign of the awkwardness one might expect from moving into such a grand house; he looked quite calm.
Tang Yuan liked the environment. "Come here. I’ll register both our fingerprints so you can keep the keys safe."
He set down his backpack, took off his cap, and walked over to her. She input her fingerprint first, then took his hand to register his, continuing until the voice prompt announced that the fingerprints of both owners had been successfully recorded.
Tang Yuan realized a moment too late that the voice prompt sounded somewhat ambiguous. She took a deep breath, pushing away the strange thoughts rising in her mind. "Yansheng, I see you like boxing. I'll buy you a punching bag and some professional gloves. Take a look and decide which room you want to use as a boxing studio."
There were plenty of rooms in the villa, and he would have plenty of freedom living there alone.
"Tang Yuan."
He called her name so suddenly that she was startled, instinctively responding, "Hm?"
This seemed to be the first time he had addressed her by her first name.
"I’ll buy them myself. Keep your money."
Was he trying to save her money? Tang Yuan didn't know what to say. She hadn't expected someone so cold to have such a stark contrast in personality. She suddenly understood why some men liked young girls who knew how to save them money—it was just so pure.
It was a purity that made one want to treat him well.
Without a second thought, she pulled out her phone and ordered several pairs of gloves and a heavy bag.
"They'll be delivered this afternoon; you can install them yourself. You start filming the day after tomorrow, so hurry up and heal. You should have called me the moment that happened last night."
As she spoke, she checked her phone and saw a text from Chen Sen: *Is your artist in trouble? I heard some gossip this morning that President Shen stepped in for Song Qianqian.*
Tang Yuan had suspected as much, and now it was confirmed. A flash of anger flared in her heart. She looked at Fu Yansheng and asked, "Did you know who was behind the attack last night?"
Fu Yansheng lowered his lashes, focusing on tidily organizing his things. It seemed those people had indeed declared who they were working for.
"Yansheng, no matter what happens in the future, you must tell me. If you do this again, I really will be angry."
He looked up at her. "I didn't want to put you in a difficult position."
After saying this, he went back to sorting his things. Tang Yuan understood. The boy was too sensitive; he must have known she had a strained relationship with Shen Zhou and feared that if she found out Shen Zhou was responsible, she would have a falling out with him. Her already crumbling marriage would likely become even more of a mess.
"You might be my cash cow in the future. Shen Zhou isn't more important than you."
His fingers paused, a fleeting emotion crossing his eyes. "I understand."
