"Damn Brits!"

"Hey, Li! Look at this!"

Li Jiang, filled with curiosity, leaned over. By the faint fluorescent glow emitting from the watch on the Russian's wrist, he quickly understood why the bastard was so excited.

Damn it, this little notebook was actually a ledger belonging to the British. Seeing the clear bank account numbers and passwords written inside, Li Jiang was speechless. Were the British really so absent-minded? To carry such sensitive information on them and write it down so clearly?

In truth, Li Jiang was a bit of a layman. Carrying ledgers like this wasn't just a British habit; many mercenaries did it, especially those free-roaming soldiers of fortune who had no ties to anyone. After all, who could you trust more than yourself?

Clearly, no one.

It was just that the amount of information in the ledger the Russian held was quite substantial; it didn't seem to belong to just one person, but rather an entire team.

"The damn Brits finally brought us some good news. These guys must be British mercenaries, not their regular ground forces."

"Mercenaries?"

"Can British mercenaries just walk around using standard-issue gear like this?" Li Jiang was stunned again. Who would dare say the pile of weapons on the ground wasn't standard kit for the British Army's special forces?

"No, no, no! Li, I really think you need to learn a thing or two about mercenaries. Even though these guys are mercenaries, they are all British military veterans. They have countless threads connecting them to the British Army. Don't you know that many of the 'British' people participating in wars and carrying out missions in Iraq are actually contract soldiers, not the official British military? God! Li, you really aren't a qualified mercenary!"

Li Jiang didn't care about the scorn he was receiving from the Russian. It would have been a miracle if he had known these things without the Russian telling him.

Even so, Li Jiang was quite surprised. The Russian was truly a mystery. He couldn't guarantee that the others knew what the Russian was talking about, but he was certain that Williams and the Frenchman, Louis—who had already been killed—had no clue. Since the guy had kept it hidden, Li couldn't be bothered to pry. They were a team now, brothers who entrusted their lives to one another, not just two foreigners traveling together.

"Tank, Angel, how is it on your end? We're coming to support you immediately." With the comms channel cleared, Li Jiang didn't intend to keep debating with the Russian.

"The fight is already over! Boss, where are you?"

"Do you need us to provide support?" Li Jiang glanced at the Russian, who was still in a daze, and hesitated for a moment.

"No need! Assemble at your original location; we'll be there shortly." He cut the comms.

"Nicholas, pack up now! We have to go!"

"What about these things?" The Russian pointed to the gear on the ground, his face twisted in pain. These were high-quality items; if the gear from all four men were sold, it would fetch at least 500,000 USD. Even if that bastard Polica squeezed the price, it would still net 200,000. It was all money, but it was also trouble. Even though Tank and Angel were performing well, no one could be sure if they would let word slip.

"Nicholas, blow it up! We can't take these things with us, you know that."

The Russian understood, of course, but don't forget his nickname: "Money-Grubber."

Li Jiang was pained too. Forget the other gear; just the two high-precision sniper rifles made his mouth water. Those were things you couldn't buy even if you had the money. If those British mercenary bastards hadn't been careless, he wouldn't even have seen them, let alone owned them.

Still, the British were just unlucky. If it hadn't been for the duo of Li Jiang and the Russian, no one else would have been able to kill them. Four battle-hardened, retired British special forces soldiers—who would believe they could die in such a pathetic way? They were discovered by pure chance and killed without even knowing what their enemies looked like.

They hid the bodies of the British, and with a heavy heart, piled the gear together. They pulled the pins on all the grenades, including those attached to the two sniper rifles. Li Jiang gritted his teeth, nearly tempted to grab one and run, but his innate caution held him back.

Damn, it was agonizing!

"Move!" The Russian pulled the pin on one of the grenades, let out a low roar, and the two of them sprinted from the rooftop toward the neighboring buildings, carrying their SVD sniper rifles.

After vaulting over several railings, a massive explosion erupted behind them, followed by a dozen more deafening blasts that made their scalps tingle. Li Jiang turned back, watching the building behind them collapse into ruins, and clicked his tongue.

That was terrifying! What kind of explosive was that? It was nearly as powerful as a high-yield bomb.

"Fuck! Li, that was money! That was all money! Damn Brits."

Li Jiang glanced at the Russian, wondering if the "Brits" he was cursing were the mercenaries they just killed, or if he was referring to "Doctor" Lean, the British man who had joined their combat team.

Lean was British, a retired military doctor; it was hard to say if he didn't have some connection to the British military.

"Let's go, we're out of time." He lifted his wrist to check the time. It was past 5:00 AM. A sliver of red and white light was visible on the horizon—the backdrop of the sky before dawn. Khamis was set to launch a full-scale assault on Misrata at 6:00 AM sharp. They had only just reached the outskirts; if they didn't hurry to infiltrate and hide, they would be facing much more than the kind of attack they had just dealt with.

Soon, the two groups converged. Tank, Angel, and the others were in decent spirits, but when they saw the ragged appearances of Li Jiang and the Russian, they looked at each other in confusion.

"Hey, Boss, are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Is everyone here? Tank, Angel! And Killer!"

"Keyboard? Doctor?"

"Yes, Boss, we're all here!"

They checked the headcount. Just as Li Jiang's team assembled, a large group of people poured into the corridor on the other side—it was the members of the Batra mercenary group. Compared to them, Batra's people looked quite disheveled, with almost everyone suffering minor wounds, though scrapes and bruises meant nothing to them.

"Thank you, Duke! You saved us again!" Batra's expression was grave, but he gripped Li Jiang's hands tightly; his gratitude was genuine. Not just him, but the remaining twenty or so members of Batra's group looked at Li Jiang with thanks. Given the situation, if Li Jiang hadn't broken the deadlock so quickly, they likely would have been surrounded, and the consequences would have been unimaginable. No one had expected that, apart from the Libyans, there would be another force present.

"Hey, Duke, we might have hit a big problem! There were British among the people you killed."

Fuck!

Fuck!!

Both men cursed at the same time. But Li Jiang knew very well that the Russian wasn't cursing Batra; he was cursing himself.

Damn it! If they had known there were British among the dead, why the hell had they bothered to cover their tracks? They had blown up all that good gear for nothing. Two L115A3s! With high-precision scopes!
