Unless one paid close attention, no one would notice the war raging in North Africa, tens of thousands of miles away. And even if they did, it would likely be nothing more than casual gossip over tea.

Humans are strange creatures.

Preparing for danger in times of peace is not something everyone can do; in fact, only a tiny minority understand this principle.

It is much like spectators standing below a ring. In their eyes, war is hot-blooded! Explosive! Filled with stunning visual effects that stir up an irrepressible excitement.

But they do not know.

Beyond all that, war is also cruel.

Flesh and blood flying!

Corpses littering the fields!

Bleached bones everywhere!

Thud!

Thud!!

Thud!!!

"Are you going to talk? Are you Chinese always this stubborn? Damn it!"

Thud!

Another fist slammed violently into his face. Yet, other than a slight twitch of his eyelids, Shi Junqiang showed no reaction. If not for his still-beating heart, he would have been no different from a corpse.

The democracy and peace the Americans preached would never land anywhere outside the United States. Yet, there were always plenty of foolish people who believed the soldiers of this country were as brave and sincere as they were portrayed in Hollywood blockbusters.

Of course, to Shi Junqiang, none of this mattered, because aside from physical torture, the Americans seemed to have no better options.

"Stop!"

"Yes, sir!"

Cooper Lawrence practically pinched his nose as he walked into the interrogation room. The pungent stench of blood wafting from the blood-soaked Chinese man made him frown. These damn Chinese people reeked of a disgusting odor from the inside out. If not for the secret this man carried—one that could shock both the Pentagon and the White House—he would never have set foot in this place.

"Did he talk?"

"No, sir! This Chinese guy is tough."

"Tough, is he? Tell him we have all the time in the world. He doesn't have to talk!"

As the voices of the two Americans reached his ears, Shi Junqiang's consciousness began to clear slightly. Having been tortured continuously for three days and three nights, even a man of iron would have broken by now.

"Pah! Damn Yanks, can't you clean up your filthy mouths?"

Hearing the voice, Cooper coldly sized up the Chinese man. Aside from his eyes, which showed he was still alive, his face, covered in blood, bore no expression whatsoever.

"You are brave, Chinese. But that won't do you any good. Just tell me who participated in the first two operations against the US military, and where he is now. I'll let you go, and I can even give you a large sum of US dollars—enough for you to live comfortably in China for the rest of your life."

"US dollars?"

Shi Junqiang seemed slightly swayed, a glint appearing in his eyes. But Cooper was no fool.

Sure enough.

"Sorry, US dollars are useless to us. If I used them as toilet paper, I'd complain they're too stiff."

"Sir—"

The American soldier's face darkened, and he looked ready to smash his fist into Shi Junqiang's face, but Cooper stopped him. With a final cold glance at the Chinese man, Cooper turned and left the interrogation room.

"Sir!"

Just as he stepped out of the interrogation room, a very young-looking US Army officer walked up to him. However, upon closer inspection, one would notice that this fellow was actually the former vice leader of the Caesar Mercenary Group, Cork Levins. Now, he was surprisingly a major in the US military.

"Any new intel?"

"No, sir. But we got the latest update from the French. The mercenary killed by the Libyans has a daughter in France. The Russian who escaped earlier went to France and met with the little girl. I believe we need to pass this information to the CIA and have them keep an eye on things in France."

Cork Levins's expression was extremely grave, showing none of the arrogance he had displayed back in Benghazi.

Cooper Lawrence pondered for a moment before nodding.

"I'll leave this to you. Make sure nobody else finds out."

"Yes, sir!"

"Additionally, hand that Chinese guy over to the Libyans. Tell Halide that what they want is with this Chinese man's partner. If he can find what we need, the United States will take Libya's side."

"Yes, sir!"

Shi Junqiang knew exactly what the Americans were scheming, but he was bewildered. What on earth had Li Changjiang done to make the Americans go to such lengths, even risking multiple deep incursions into Libya to capture him? Based on his understanding of the Americans, unless Li Changjiang held something fatal to them, these Yanks would never act this crazily.

Who exactly was Li Changjiang?

Was he really just an ordinary Chinese guy?

Recalling his young compatriot's almost jaw-dropping marksmanship, Shi Junqiang couldn't help but feel suspicious.

With such limited information, he couldn't guess Li Changjiang's identity or background, but he knew that an ordinary person would never possess that kind of marksmanship.

Achoo! Achoo!

Li Changjiang sneezed several times in a row, feeling a bit dazed.

According to scientific research, everyone closes their eyes when they sneeze, without exception. And after Li Changjiang finished his two sneezes, he realized that the rather talkative general had once again appeared in his room.

"Caught a cold? You lack exercise, kid. Catching a cold just from standing outside for one night. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I really wouldn't believe that the guy who killed more people than me was you."

Boom!

Hearing those words, Li Changjiang was instantly dumbfounded.

He was exposed!

It was over!

Hearing those words, Li Changjiang's first reaction was that he was done for! It was definitely over! He had known all along that they wouldn't bring him all the way from Nanjiang Province to the Great Northwest for no reason. Sure enough, it wasn't anything good.

But right after this thought popped up, Li Changjiang's mind quickly calmed down.

Wait, that wasn't right.

If the military really wanted to trouble him, they wouldn't have treated him to such good food and drink over the past few days. Aside from not participating in training, Li Changjiang had been treated almost like a VIP.

"Are you surprised at how we know about your business in Libya? As the Chinese saying goes, 'If you don't want anyone to know, don't do it.' You fought your way from Tripoli to Benghazi, and then back from Benghazi to Tripoli. Do you think everyone else is a fool? You self-righteous, reckless fool! If not for the fact that you saved our men, I would shoot you dead right now!"

Thud.

Xiang Guofang slammed his hand hard onto the table, making the sentry standing guard outside the door jump in startle.

Yet, Li Changjiang appeared unusually calm.

Still, he was somewhat surprised in his heart.

Those Chinese people from before really were soldiers. No wonder their combat capability was so formidable. If they hadn't been pinned down by the Libyans' RPGs and heavy machine guns due to their lack of weapons, they probably wouldn't have needed his help at all to break out of Misrata.

In fact, Li Changjiang also understood.

Since the general in front of him had brought up his deeds in Libya so openly, it meant he was safe. Otherwise, they would have quietly disposed of him without going through all this trouble.

So, when he met Xiang Guofang's cold gaze, Xiang Guofang actually understood.

This place could not hold Li Changjiang.
