Chapter 4: At Least Leave Happily
Chen Fan frowned. Without a moment’s hesitation, he bit the tip of his index finger and pressed it firmly against the center of Fu Xueyue’s brow.
A drop of fresh blood bloomed instantly upon her forehead, resembling a budding blood-red lotus flower.
"I will find you."
"No matter how dark the corner you hide in, I will find you."
Chen Fan stared at the blood-red lotus, his calm voice sending a chill down the spine.
"Until I find you, you will live in the terror of being hunted by me."
"You will be afraid that I will track you down."
"You will be afraid that your black magic is useless against me."
"Hide then. Hide as well as you can, and it will only take me that much longer to catch you..."
The moment the blood-red lotus vanished completely, Fu Xueyue went limp, collapsing into Chen Fan’s arms.
Chen Fan supported her shoulders. Her skin felt icy, as if she had just stepped out of a sub-zero freezer while wearing summer clothes.
"Sigh." Chen Fan shook his head slightly and had no choice but to carry her into his room.
...
In a dark basement, cinnabar-stained yellow talismans covered every pillar, and black cloth blocked the ventilation ducts. A three-headed, six-armed demon statue was enshrined on a Western candelabra.
Suddenly, the hideous demon statue eerily lost one of its heads and a pair of arms.
A gaunt man in a Taoist robe shivered, his lips trembling, his face etched with pure terror.
"Master! Master! Your disciple has caused you to lose a life!"
"Disobedient disciple! It is the disciple who accidentally provoked a powerful figure! A truly formidable person!"
"Please, save my life! I beg you, give me a way to break this hex!"
The gaunt man kowtowed three times in a panic, then picked up an old tortoise shell and tossed blood-stained copper coins into it with trembling hands.
"Hide? Master... you? You want me to hide?!"
"Fine! Fine, I’ll hide!"
The gaunt man shakily pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and cursed, "Damn it! Someone was able to break Master Kusha’s feng shui formation! There’s an expert protecting Fu Xueyue!"
"Why didn’t you tell me sooner!"
"Get lost! Get lost! Get lost! I’m not taking this job anymore!"
...
Early morning.
The autumn air was crisp, but the morning sun brought a touch of warmth. Fu Xueyue opened her eyes in a daze, blinking twice.
This?
This wasn't her room!
What happened last night?!
She saw Chen Fan leaning against the bedside, holding her wrist, and in a panic, she quickly shut her eyes.
"You’re awake."
Chen Fan’s voice sounded, laced with fatigue.
"What? I just woke up..." As soon as the words left her lips, Fu Xueyue realized how poor her excuse sounded.
She sat up, blushing, and asked, "Last night..."
"Oh, you were cursed last night," Chen Fan said indifferently. "The person who cursed you was ruthless, using a soul-scorching technique to force you into a state of severe hypothermia. Fortunately, you knocked on my door before you lost consciousness."
Fu Xueyue’s expression flickered.
Last night... she almost died?
Vague memories surfaced, reminding her that it had indeed suddenly turned freezing cold. The thermostat had shown a normal temperature, so she realized something was wrong and hurriedly wrapped herself in a quilt to find Chen Fan. As for what happened after that... she couldn't remember.
"Stay here for a moment. I’m going to wash my face."
Chen Fan stretched and headed toward the bathroom.
Watching his back, Fu Xueyue tiptoed back to her room, grabbed her phone, and ran back barefoot, diving into the covers.
Biting her lip, she opened her security app, adjusted the feed to the guest room, and pulled up the stored footage.
Fu Xueyue watched as she collapsed stiffly into Chen Fan’s arms, her face turning crimson.
But things didn't go as she had anticipated; instead, Chen Fan had gently placed her on the guest bed. He simply sat by the bedside, tucked the blanket around her, turned up the thermostat, and held her wrist to help her regain her body heat...
The sound of water in the bathroom continued, and Fu Xueyue’s heart was filled with shame.
She had... suspected Chen Fan of having impure intentions.
In truth, she wouldn't have minded, but seeing his actions left her feeling not only a warm touch in her heart but also a deep sense of self-reproach.
The water stopped abruptly, and Chen Fan walked out, wiping his face.
"Chen Fan, you’re a good person," Fu Xueyue said, her cheeks flushed.
Chen Fan: ?
This woman really held a grudge! Last time he gave her a "good person" card, and now she was giving it back.
"The person who targeted you should lay low for the next two days," Chen Fan said calmly. "Once I finish my business, I’ll find the person who cast that curse on you."
Fu Xueyue nodded vigorously. "Mm-hmm, I’ll wait for you to come back."
Mm-hmm? Chen Fan raised an eyebrow. A cold, aloof female CEO actually using such colloquial fillers?
That was quite a surprising, charming contrast.
Chen Fan put on his coat and walked out of the guest room.
In the manor’s hall, a middle-aged man with an air of authority sat waiting, while his assistant poured tea. Seeing Chen Fan, the man frowned.
"Why aren't you wearing your uniform?"
"Forget it, it’s early, I won't punish you."
The man beckoned to Chen Fan. "Come here and pour me some tea."
He looked up at his assistant. "Xiao Li, go to the car and get the official documents."
"Yes," Xiao Li replied, turning to leave the hall immediately.
Seeing Chen Fan standing still, staring right at him, the man frowned again.
"What are you standing there for? Come over and pour the tea."
"Don't be angry; anger is bad for your health."
Chen Fan shook his head slightly, chuckled, and walked over.
There was no point. There was no need for him to get angry at a dead man.
He carried the aura of someone whose life was hanging by a thread in the underworld—he was destined to die an unnatural death.
One look and he knew: this was a member of the Fu family.
How tragic.
Fu Ankang couldn't hold it together anymore, his face full of confusion. In his eyes, Chen Fan was just a domestic worker at the Fu manor. How did he have the right to speak to him like that?
"What did you say?"
"It’s nothing, don't get angry."
Chen Fan patted his shoulder. "It’s normal for you to feel angry. Humans actually have a certain level of intuition about everything in the world."
"But keeping your temper in check will at least let you leave this world a bit happier."
Fu Ankang was stunned.
Fu Xueyue, who had just walked out of the guest room wrapped in a quilt, saw this scene and was also stunned.
"Dad?"
"Xueyue, where did you find this person! Fire him immediately..."
Seeing Fu Xueyue emerge from the guest room, Fu Ankang was even more bewildered.
