“What is it?”
Han Chunyu and the others instantly felt their hair stand on end and turned sharply toward Chen Fan.
The old man in the lead did not hesitate. He hurled the small cauldron in his hand straight at Chen Fan.
Before it could even touch him, however, it was shattered by an invisible surge of righteous energy.
“What?”
The old man’s pupils trembled violently.
Even the burly man with a face full of flesh was now terrified.
What kind of power was this?
“How can it be you?”
Han Chunyu was overcome with emotion. He hurriedly explained, “I have nothing to do with Jiang Xiao!”
“I swear, I only wanted to trick her out of her money!”
“We—we can return it all to you!”
The old man and the others immediately grew alert, their eyes filled with terror as they stared at Chen Fan.
Chen Fan was the powerful figure Han Chunyu had mentioned earlier!
“Heh…”
Chen Fan chuckled softly. “The Jiang family’s affairs have nothing to do with me, and I don’t care about them.”
“I came only to see who had auctioned off my sect’s treasure…”
“I never expected you people to be…”
His gaze swept over them.
Regardless of whether they were men or women, every one of them bore the mark of karmic sin.
To possess such a mark meant that they had either directly or indirectly caused someone’s death.
The burly man at the door bore the heaviest taint of all. Clearly, he had only recently killed an innocent person.
“I am a man who firmly follows a set of personal principles,” Chen Fan said indifferently. “I believe in the spirit of contracts, and I cannot bear to see suffering in this world.”
“But I do not wish to interfere recklessly with karma, so ordinarily, I kill only evil cultivators and corrupt feng shui masters.”
“But sometimes… I truly cannot hold myself back.”
Chen Fan raised his left hand. Under the horrified gazes of Han Chunyu and the others, a vortex of dark energy gathered in his palm.
Spectral creatures burst from the vortex and swooped upon the old man and the others, tearing into them.
Ordinary people could not see ghosts and spirits in their daily lives.
But when their vital energy was damaged, or when death was drawing near, they gained the ability to see things that others could not.
“No!”
“Don’t come near me! Ghosts!”
“Ahhh! Help! Help me, Master!”
In an instant, the sight of the spectral creatures terrified them into expressions of utter horror.
The spirits burrowed into their bodies. When they emerged again, the victims’ faces were as pale as corpses.
No—they were already dead.

The spectral creatures returned to Chen Fan’s palm, but the vortex of dark energy did not disappear.
Chen Fan stared coldly at Han Chunyu.
Han Chunyu was kneeling on the ground, trembling all over. His eyes were filled with such overwhelming terror that they looked like dead ashes.
Chen Fan raised his left hand and pressed it against Han Chunyu’s forehead.
Buddhist light flashed, and clarity returned to Han Chunyu’s eyes.
“You will forget that I came here. Then you will turn yourself in immediately and confess every one of your crimes.”
Han Chunyu paused, then nodded.
“Yes… yes…”
“I will confess my sins…”
After completing everything, Chen Fan left through the window.
…
The next day.
A major story made the headlines in Azure City.
A criminal gang that had committed crimes across several regions had turned on one another during an internal dispute, leaving six people dead.
The sole survivor eventually surrendered to the authorities.
“So you’re saying…”
“This is another supernatural incident? It falls under the Special Investigations Bureau?”
The police superintendent looked at Yu Yu and the man carrying a peach-wood sword, then silently took two steps backward.
“Yes.” Yu Yu shrugged helplessly. “Bodies were also discovered on Sleepless Street last night… one of them belonged to an evil cultivator.”
“We went to investigate him. Otherwise, we would have arrived sooner.”
The man with the peach-wood sword entered the room at the inn and looked down at the bodies on the floor, narrowing his eyes slightly.
“A spectral creature tearing out the heart… an evil cultivator’s technique.”
“It makes people see the most terrifying scene in their hearts before they die of fear.”
The peach-sword man frowned. “Damn it… Why is there also a trace of Buddhist magic?”
“How is that possible…”
“Has a monk fallen into darkness? What on earth is happening in Azure City?”
Yu Yu rubbed his head, his face full of bitterness.
How long had it been? So many people had died again…
With so many murder cases in Azure City, it would be difficult to suppress the news.
“I contacted headquarters. The person coming to support us is Daoist Fengyun.”
“Daoist Fengyun!”
The peach-sword man’s face lit up with excitement.
“I heard that when he once competed against the Chief Daoist, he did not fall behind even after a hundred exchanges!”
“Now that he has mastered the Secret Art of Wind and Clouds, he certainly wouldn’t lose if he faced that Chief Daoist again, would he?”
Yu Yu gave a slight nod and said with firm conviction, “He definitely won’t lose!”

“Once Daoist Fengyun arrives, the mist shrouding Azure City… will finally part, revealing the light of day.”
…
The Fu family estate.
Chen Fan ate a breakfast prepared by a chef from the state banquet kitchens, inwardly marveling at how different life was when one had money.
They were both steamed buns, so how could the difference be this enormous?
“Where did you go last night?”
Fu Xueyue wiped her mouth with a tissue and asked with raised brows.
Chen Fan blinked. “How did you know I went out last night?”
For a moment, the two of them fell silent at the same time.
Chen Fan was somewhat puzzled. He had used his divine movement technique to leave the previous night.
Besides, this was his own affair, so it was only natural that he had not told Fu Xueyue.
Even the estate’s surveillance cameras could not have captured him leaving.
Fu Xueyue kept a blank expression, though embarrassment made her feel feverish inside.
She would never admit that she had used the surveillance system to watch Chen Fan’s bedroom last night…
She had only wanted to make sure he was not secretly up to anything improper while alone.
“Oh? You’re all finished eating?”
Zhao Chenxi emerged at that moment, bleary-eyed. Pouting, she cast a bitter look at Fu Xueyue.
“Sister Xueyue… Can I skip work today?”
“I’ve approved an extended leave for you.”
Though Fu Xueyue’s voice remained calm, she secretly let out a long sigh of relief.
Chen Fan, however, looked at Fu Xueyue strangely.
Fortunately, he was a feng shui master and knew how to read faces.
This boss of his…
What did she mean by secretly spying on the privacy of a business partner?
She had absolutely no shame!
“Thanks, Sister Xueyue. Then I’ll go back to sleep for a while… I’ll just head to the funeral home afterward.”
After saying this, the little golden retriever turned and walked toward the bedroom. Before entering, she secretly glanced back at Chen Fan.
“What do you have planned today?” Fu Xueyue asked, then continued speaking without waiting for an answer. “I have to go to Two-Faced Mountain today. The project has been finalized.”
“Two-Faced Mountain…”
Chen Fan studied Fu Xueyue’s face and frowned.
“You can’t go today.”
