“Mi Jie, you just handed Xuan Bao’er over just like that?” He Baibai looked astonished and somewhat displeased. “That Li Qing is really over the line—didn’t even get out of the car before taking the child away. What on earth is he thinking?”

Yang Mi stared at the fading taillights, her heart a tangled mix of emotions. After a moment, she said calmly, “Maybe he wants to do a paternity test.”

He Baibai grew even angrier. “A big star comes to you with the child, and you take the advantage but still act coy? But then again, it makes sense—they wouldn’t be careless about something as important as the child.”

“But… it still feels a bit disrespectful,” He Baibai sympathized on Yang Mi’s behalf.

Yang Mi felt uneasy too, but she was clearly more composed. Taking a deep breath, she said, “Enough. I was the one who took the child to find him; in a sense, I was the one troubling him.”

He Baibai was stunned, then speechless with frustration. “Mi Jie, ever since you had the child, you’ve completely changed! Is this still the same aloof goddess you were?”

Yang Mi said nothing further and simply walked toward the car. “Alright, the company still has work to do. Let’s head back first. And keep a close eye on Xuan Bao’er for me.”

On the way, He Baibai drove while continuing to discuss Li Qing. “Mi Jie, I’ll be watching him closely during this time to see if he can be a responsible father.”

He Baibai was fond of Xuan Bao’er and, like Yang Mi, deeply concerned about the situation. “Though Xuan Bao’er’s life with us may be a bit constrained, he’s never suffered. What worries me is the other party’s financial means—that’s a big issue.”

Yang Mi shared these concerns. The child’s daily needs—food, clothing—were not the best but certainly high quality. Monthly expenses for food, drink, and entertainment alone ran fifty to sixty thousand yuan, something an ordinary family simply couldn’t afford.

“But he has an assistant; maybe he has a company at home,” Yang Mi reasoned, perhaps more to comfort herself. “If he runs a company in Modu, his income shouldn’t be too bad.”

He Baibai sneered. “Judging by his car, it doesn’t look that impressive. Though it has a high-end feel, a Chevrolet SUV costs only around four hundred thousand yuan. And I’ve never even seen that model before.”

Faced with He Baibai’s endless chatter, Yang Mi waved her hand tiredly. “Enough, just focus on driving. I want to rest for a while.”

Meanwhile, on the other side, Li Qing sat in the back seat holding Xuan Bao’er, their eyes locked. Honestly, this was Li Qing’s first time interacting with a child, and he was somewhat awkward. But seeing Xuan Bao’er’s adorable and charming face stirred feelings within him—even he was moved.

Most importantly, the child resembled him unmistakably.

Combining this with his previous analysis of Yang Mi’s motives, Li Qing was certain—and deeply convinced in his heart—that Xuan Bao’er was his own child.

At this thought, Li Qing’s emotions became complicated—a mix of joy, excitement, nervousness, and helplessness.

He couldn’t quite explain it, but after all these years, this was the first time he’d felt such emotions.

“You are Xuan Bao’er’s daddy, right?” Xuan Bao’er looked at this unfamiliar man without resistance, even feeling a strange sense of closeness.

Li Qing smiled gently. “How do you know I’m your dad? Did your mom tell you?”

Xuan Bao’er looked up at Li Qing with big eyes and sweetly replied, “Mom said she was bringing me to see my daddy today. I heard that uncle call you Mr. Li, and my daddy is Li Qing, so I thought you were my daddy.”

Li Qing was slightly taken aback by this. Wang Mian, sitting nearby, laughed and said, “Qing, the kid’s really smart—so young and already so sensible.”

Li Qing smiled indulgently. “Hehe, Xuan Bao’er, do you know your full name?”

Encouraged by the praise, Xuan Bao’er nodded happily. “I know! My full name is Li Xuan, Mom told me!”

Li Xuan? Li Qing’s gaze softened. Yang Mi had given birth to the child alone but hadn’t let the child take her surname; instead, he bore Li’s name. That was unexpected.

Looking at the child, Li Qing felt an inexplicable joy and even a faint thrill—he was a father now!

“Wang Mian, when we get back, install a baby seat in the car, custom-made by Baoli Group’s military department,” Li Qing said while holding Xuan Bao’er. “I want to personally inspect it.”

Wang Mian’s expression brightened, eager to take on the task. “Got it, Qing. We’ll retrofit this car right away.”

Although the Chevrolet didn’t look like a luxury car, it was entirely custom-made by Li Qing—one of a kind on the market. Under Baoli Group’s craftsmanship, the vehicle was equipped with bulletproofing, anti-surveillance, anti-mine features, and could even withstand several rocket hits head-on.

Before Wang Mian finished speaking, Li Qing added, “I’m not just talking about this car—every one of them.”

Wang Mian was momentarily surprised, then laughed. “No problem.”

Li Qing owned over a hundred cars, and Baoli Group would have plenty of work ahead.

He continued pondering, unaware that from this moment on, his emotions would be deeply influenced by Xuan Bao’er.

“Also, after the medical checkup, the car must be stocked with appropriate medical facilities, including backup blood supplies. Everything for Xuan Bao’er’s outings must be as thorough as mine.”

Wang Mian nodded seriously. “No problem. I think the villa should be renovated too, to better accommodate the child.”

As the uncle figure, Wang Mian treated Xuan Bao’er as a precious treasure.

He then asked, “So, are we still going to the small courtyard?”

Li Qing replied, “Let’s go straight to Huazhou Junting.”

Though the Huazhou Junting villa had been unoccupied, servants were still working daily, cleaning and maintaining the furniture.

“Xuan Bao’er, do you want to see Daddy’s home?” Li Qing asked with a fatherly warmth.

“Thank you, Daddy,” Xuan Bao’er said unexpectedly.

Though much of what Li Qing said was beyond her understanding, she sensed that her father was doing everything for her.

Looking into her innocent eyes, Li Qing was briefly stunned, then smiled. “Who taught you that?”

Xuan Bao’er looked serious. “Mom did—she said you have to say thank you when someone gives you something.”

Li Qing felt a pang of guilt. This child was so sensible it was heartbreaking.

“Xuan Bao’er, Daddy isn’t a stranger. You don’t need to say thank you,” he said gently, stroking her head.

Soon, the car pulled into the Huazhou Junting villa.

Although it was a villa district, there were no other residents in the northern section because Li Qing preferred solitude and had purchased the entire area.

Xuan Bao’er was awestruck by the huge house. She had thought her mother’s home was large, since it took some time to walk from the living room to the bedroom. But after arriving at Li Qing’s villa, the little one was speechless.

“Daddy, your house is so big!”

Li Qing smiled. “So, do you like it, Xuan Bao’er?”

She nodded emphatically. “I like it!”

At that moment, Wang Mian approached quietly. “Qing, the medical team has arrived. Let’s start Xuan Bao’er’s checkup.”

Li Qing nodded. It was necessary to examine the child—to check for allergies or any hidden illnesses beforehand.

Although he knew Yang Mi would surely take the child for checkups, Li Qing trusted his own medical team more.

Half an hour later, in the villa’s living room, Li Qing studied Xuan Bao’er’s medical report—everything was normal.

Alongside it lay a paternity test report: DNA analysis confirmed paternity with 99.999% certainty.

Reading this, Li Qing smiled in a way he never had before.

“Send a copy of the results to Yang Mi,” he said as he settled onto the sofa. He reached for a cigarette but, seeing Xuan Bao’er approaching, put it down instead.
