Chapter 14: We Will Personally Come to Apologize!
With a heart full of apprehension, Chen Yu took a pack of premium tea from the office and entered the reception room.
Upon stepping inside, he saw William sitting on the sofa, his face marked by worry and anger.
Seeing this, Chen Yu grew somewhat nervous and forced a smile as he said, “Mr. William, what brings you here in person?”
He hurried over to pour tea and water, placing the freshly brought tea leaves on the table with a flattering expression: “Mr. William, this is some top-grade tea I brought down from the south—pre-rain Longjing. Please have a taste.”
William didn’t even glance at it and said sternly, “Manager Chen, what exactly is going on?”
William’s tone was unfriendly, leaving Chen Yu somewhat baffled.
On the way here, Chen Yu had been thinking that he hadn’t made any mistakes recently, and the company was actually thriving.
Chen Yu’s face showed confusion as he awkwardly smiled and asked, “Mr. William, have I... done something wrong?”
William was displeased. “Don’t call me Mr. William. Call me BOSS! Call me ‘boss’!”
Chen Yu took a deep breath and nodded. “Yes, boss.”
William lit a cigar and said coldly, “Did you change the product spokesperson?”
Chen Yu was slightly stunned but quickly replied, “Yes, that did happen. Previously, Yang Mi was the spokesperson, but due to certain issues, she was replaced by the currently popular Wu Yufei.”
Chen Yu felt a bit puzzled. Why was the chairman suddenly concerned about such a trivial matter?
William furrowed his brow and asked solemnly, “Did Yang Mi terminate the contract of her own accord?”
He still held a glimmer of hope. If Yang Mi had initiated the termination, then perhaps the matter could be managed...
Chen Yu lowered his head and said, “Uh... we terminated it proactively. Due to certain reasons, we feared Yang Mi might impact our product, so we replaced her.”
Upon hearing this, William’s brow furrowed tightly, and his anxiety turned to despair.
“Fuck!”
William slammed the table hard, eyes wide with fury. “Why did you breach the contract? Do you even understand the consequences?!”
Overwhelmed with anger, William was nearly losing control because this matter was huge for the entire company!
But Chen Yu was utterly confused. He had no idea why the chairman of such a prestigious company as Estée Lauder would explode over such a small issue. It baffled him deeply.
“Boss... Yang Mi is just a star in Longguo. Breaching the contract means paying some penalty, right? It shouldn’t cause any serious consequences, should it?”
Chen Yu’s voice was barely a whisper as he lowered his gaze, reluctant to meet William’s eyes.
“You...!” William wanted to lash out but reconsidered. Chen Yu didn’t know the full story, and William couldn’t reveal it, so he gritted his teeth.
“What do you know?!”
“When have we at Estée Lauder ever breached a contract like this?!”
“No matter what, tomorrow you must immediately terminate the contract with that star!”
“And then you must personally go and apologize, and reinstate cooperation with Yang Mi as the spokesperson!”
“No, I will also personally go and apologize!”
When William finished speaking, Chen Yu was completely stunned.
Standing before William, Chen Yu stared at him in disbelief.
He couldn’t understand why his boss was reacting so strongly.
It was just Yang Mi—surely it wasn’t that serious?
But seeing William’s expression, Chen Yu didn’t dare to argue and could only stammer, “Boss... you still want to apologize personally?”
“This...”
Before Chen Yu could finish, William interrupted coldly, “What, do you have a problem with that?”
“In business, integrity is paramount!”
“By doing this, you’re slapping me in the face, do you understand?”
“I’m telling you, whether or not you can do it—if you can’t, I’ll find someone else!”
Hearing this, Chen Yu immediately panicked.
Damn, how could this be so serious? And now he might be replaced?!
“Boss, I promise I can do it!”
Chen Yu vowed earnestly, fearing that if William became displeased, he might be dismissed immediately.
William snorted coldly. “I’ll come to the office tomorrow. I’m personally supervising this matter.”
With that, William rose and left the reception room without looking back.
“No need to see me out!”
Chen Yu stood at the doorway, still bewildered.
What was wrong with the chairman today?
Why was he making such a fuss over Yang Mi?
“Mr. Chen, what’s going on with the chairman?” the secretary asked at the door, his face equally confused.
“Could it be that Yang Mi stirred up trouble for him somewhere?”
Chen Yu glanced at him and sighed in frustration. “How can you say something so stupid?”
“What position does Yang Mi hold? How could she possibly reach the chairman?”
The secretary looked sheepish but said, “But... if that’s not the case, why is the chairman so concerned about Yang Mi terminating the contract?”
This question left Chen Yu momentarily speechless.
Without further thought, Chen Yu said gravely, “Whatever it is, get in touch with Wu Yufei immediately and terminate the contract!”
“Tomorrow, I’ll personally go to see Yang Mi!”
William’s words were like a royal decree to Chen Yu.
He had worked hard to climb to this position and didn’t want to be fired over such a trivial matter...
Meanwhile, at the Tomson Riviera residential complex, it was 10 p.m.
Yang Mi’s living room was still brightly lit.
Lately, she had been anxious and unable to fall asleep at night.
Beside her, her assistant, He Baibai, was diligently working.
“Sis Mi, there’s a small company endorsement tomorrow. Do you want to take it? The fee is 350,000.”
“There’s also a guest appearance at a concert. Want to accept that?”
Since leaving Jiaxing, Yang Mi’s future had become uncertain.
Because of deliberate distancing within the circle, she now had few opportunities.
She didn’t want to take small collaborations if she couldn’t secure major ones.
“Forget it, I won’t take them,” Yang Mi said after a moment’s thought.
“Small companies offer no guarantees. If their product has issues, how am I supposed to explain that to the public?”
“As for guest appearances at concerts, I really don’t have the heart for that.”
Seeing Yang Mi distracted, He Baibai’s eyes flickered, then guessed, “Sis Mi, are you thinking about Li Qing?”
Yang Mi snapped back to reality without denying it.
“Yeah, tonight when I was video chatting with Xuan Bao’er, Li Qing took him to a banquet.”
“And I think I saw two celebrities there.”
He Baibai blinked, curious. “Celebrities? Who?”
Yang Mi frowned, uncertain. “I think it was Jacqueline, CEO of Bonpoint children’s wear, and William, the chairman of Estée Lauder.”
“But I’ve only ever seen these two in newspapers, so I’m not completely sure.”
Hearing this, He Baibai laughed. “Sis Mi, what are you thinking?”
“You mean Li Qing took Xuan Bao’er to a banquet to dine with those big shots from the papers?”
