Chapter 60: You Wear This?
Zhang Xiluo let out a loud roar, and her vision went black again—she nearly died on the spot. It was no myth that pregnant women shouldn’t bathe in hot water!
The phone call ended, and the world outside fell instantly silent. Relieved, Zhang Xiluo thought Li Mingye had left. In the next moment, the bathroom door swung open and Li Mingye strode in.
Zhang Xiluo was entirely naked, half-reclining in the bathtub. At the sight of Li Mingye, she instinctively ducked into the water.
“How did you get in here? Get out!” she shouted.
“Is there any part of you I haven’t seen?” Li Mingye walked straight over, reaching out to lift her from the tub.
Her ears burned with shame. Burying her face in his chest, she listened to his quickening heartbeat, her cheeks flushed hot.
Damn this man and his fatal allure!
She simply couldn’t resist him.
The bathroom floor was slick with water. Li Mingye’s foot slipped, and he fell backward, hitting the wall with a dull thud. Yet Zhang Xiluo, cradled in his arms, was completely unharmed, held securely.
After getting up, Li Mingye carried her to the bed, pulled the quilt over her.
“Just out of the hospital and already eager to go back in?” Li Mingye’s words, always so infuriating, made her want to hit him.
“None of your business.” Imitating his tone, Zhang Xiluo showed no gratitude, only impatience. “How did you know I was here?”
He gave her a look reserved for fools. “Where else could you go besides the hospital and the Qin Garden?”
It was true—she had nowhere else to be.
“Come home with me. You need someone to take care of you.” Li Mingye got up, pulled a set of clothes from the wardrobe, and from the lingerie drawer, a pink lace set—sheer, adorned with a lacy bow, innocent yet tempting.
His expression flickered as he held it up. “You wear things like this?”
She’d bought it to seduce him, but never had the chance. Over time, she’d forgotten about it completely.
Utterly mortified, Zhang Xiluo glared at him. “Hasn’t anyone told you not to touch other people’s things?”
“You’re not allowed to wear this ever again.” Li Mingye tossed it straight into the trash, grabbed a normal set, and came to the bed for her to change.
Zhang Xiluo shrank beneath the quilt, covering everything but her eyes, which now glared at him in fury.
What she wore was none of his concern—he should mind Zhou Yao, not her.
“Just leave the clothes and go, thank you.” She had no desire to be naked before him; the passion before had been compelled by circumstance. He’d been too eager for release to really look at her.
“You’re my wife.” Li Mingye’s tone was domineering. He had every right—no need for decorum.
“We’re getting divorced.”
He paused, his face darkening. He flung the underwear at her and stormed out, slamming the door so hard it nearly shook the lights.
Startled, Zhang Xiluo realized the man was angry again.
After resting a while, she dressed and stepped out of her room.
“My God.” She thought her eyes deceived her—Li Mingye was mopping the floor.
Zhou Yao must be truly formidable, to have taught a domineering CEO to mop. She really was the apple of his eye, for him to do such things willingly.
His every movement was graceful, radiating a captivating aura. Doggedly attractive, he was irresistible no matter what he did.
“Just leave it. I’ll take care of it,” she said. She was no Zhou Yao, unable to enjoy such favors.
“It’s done,” Li Mingye replied, carrying the mop to the bathroom. After a noisy clatter, he emerged holding the broken mop handle. “This thing is so flimsy?”
Zhang Xiluo hurried over to check. He hadn’t found the latch and had forced the mop through the narrow bucket opening, destroying both mop and bucket.
She blamed herself—should have bought a simpler set.
“Just stop, come out,” she said.
Li Mingye left the bathroom, frowning and dissatisfied.
“Come home with me.”
“With things like this going on, is there still a home?” Zhang Xiluo found it almost laughable. Rumors of him and Zhou Yao were everywhere, both families had fallen out, yet here he was, insisting she come home.
Li Mingye’s face clouded. “There’s always a home, as long as you don’t make trouble. I told you I would resolve things with Zhou Yao. You just won’t give me time.”
“Your solution is to recognize her as a sister and keep her around?” Zhang Xiluo was in no mood for this. When had she ever made a scene? “If you keep refusing to divorce, I’ll start to think you’ve fallen for me.”
A flicker of sorrow passed through Li Mingye’s eyes. “Things with Zhou Yao aren’t as simple as you think.”
“That’s not my concern.” Zhang Xiluo noted that he’d softened—he wasn’t stabbing at her heart as he used to.
In the past, he would have said he’d rather love a pig or a dog than her.
“Zhang Xiluo, are you really that desperate for divorce?” His temper flared again.
Every time the topic arose, Li Mingye inexplicably lost his temper. He’d agreed to divorce, but never acted.
“Yes.” Remembering Zhou Yao’s words, Zhang Xiluo’s tone was resolute. “Li Mingye, ending things sooner is best for everyone.”
She didn’t want to fall victim to Zhou Yao’s schemes. By now, she was certain—if she presented her recording as evidence, Li Mingye wouldn’t believe her.
The only thing left was to leave.
Li Mingye fell silent. Zhang Xiluo thought he was about to go, but instead, he scooped her into his arms and carried her out.
She struggled, even bit him, but he would not let go—held her in his arms as they got into the car, instructing the driver to take them back to the villa.
She didn’t understand why he insisted on bringing her back.
A candlelit dinner awaited them, with a large bouquet of roses on the table and candles arranged in the shape of a heart.
“Is Zhou Yao here?” Zhang Xiluo was startled by the scene before her. At his age, he’d gone to such lengths for Zhou Yao?
“Do you want her here?” Li Mingye retorted.
She shook her head quickly. If Zhou Yao appeared, she feared she’d lose control and play the recording for Li Mingye, tearing off Zhou Yao’s mask of hypocrisy in public.
“Then eat,” Li Mingye commanded.
Zhang Xiluo didn’t move—the rare steak before her was still bleeding, and just the sight of it made her nauseous.
“I’m not hungry.”
“These days, breakup dinners are all the rage.” He lowered his head, slicing his steak with slow, elegant precision, and placed the cut pieces before her.
“Breakup dinner.” Zhang Xiluo couldn’t see his expression, but sensed his mood was somber. “Fine. When we finish, we’re done.”
She took a bite of steak, and her stomach churned. Clutching her mouth, she rushed to the bathroom.
She vomited until her stomach cramped, and only then did she feel a little better. Emerging, she heard Li Mingye on the phone.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be right there.”
He hung up, left in a hurry—not even glancing at Zhang Xiluo, as if he’d forgotten she was there entirely...
