Chapter 100: I Only Want to Be Your Agent
Feeling much lighter, Chloe Luo Xi received another call from Wang Yanan’s phone an hour later, but she ignored it completely, not wanting any further contact with someone like her. She simply pretended to be listening to music.
After two rings, a text message alert sounded. It seemed Wang Yanan had sent a message.
Out of boredom, Chloe opened the message. Wang Yanan’s tone had shifted dramatically from her earlier submissiveness to haughty arrogance: “Chloe Luo Xi, we’ll see about this. I just signed with a company. Who ends up doing better in the future? Don’t come begging me then…”
Shaking her head in disbelief, Chloe raised a brow. Wang Yanan actually signed with a company? What was going on? Who didn’t care about their reputation? Take Zhou Yuying, for example—she hadn’t appeared in public for a long time, and nobody dared to take her on.
After some thought, Chloe called Ye Xin to strike a new deal. It was essential to get to the bottom of this. If Wang Yanan really had signed, it meant she might be like a cockroach—hard to kill and always crawling back. Such brainless persistence called for extra precautions.
Barely five minutes after hanging up, Chloe unexpectedly received a call from Xiao Jingxuan. Surprised, she asked, “Senior Xiao, is there something?”
They had just spoken on the phone today; why was he calling again?
“Don’t worry about your roommate anymore. No need to investigate further. She won’t get another chance,” Xiao Jingxuan said with absolute certainty.
“Oh,” Chloe replied, puzzled but trusting his words. She wondered if there was something fishy about the company Wang Yanan had signed with. At this moment, Wang Yanan was probably at her most vulnerable.
But since the great Xiao had said so, Chloe decided to stop worrying. She returned to a regular student life, attending classes and keeping a steady routine.
Especially since Tang Ming had promised to switch the three of them to a new dormitory. Once settled, Chloe abandoned all her old belongings and bought new things before feeling comfortable returning to campus.
After about two weeks of calm, Chloe encountered a strange man—an unusually cold figure.
“What exactly do you want?” Chloe asked with a hint of helplessness, glancing at Lan Lun while silently cursing her fate.
A week ago, this man who called himself Lan Lun had appeared and since then had become a persistent shadow she couldn’t shake off. Whenever she was free, he was there, and it was starting to give her a headache.
“Give me a chance. Let’s talk,” Lan Lun said coldly, radiating a fierce chill from head to toe, enough to give one the illusion of freezing to death. His features were sharp and handsome, with a well-defined nose and chiseled contours. He looked incredibly cool and masculine—the kind who turned heads wherever he went.
A flicker of familiarity and deep thought crossed Chloe’s dark eyes, but she firmly tapped her high heels on the ground, her steps decisive, as if she wanted to trample him. Where on earth had this man come from?
“I’ve told you, I don’t want an agent. I don’t want to sign with a company. Stop wasting your time chasing me,” she said.
Lan Lun’s eyes deepened, his thin lips pressed tightly, growing even colder. Yet, taking a long stride, he matched Chloe’s pace. “I’m not with a company, nor do I represent one. I just want to be your personal agent.”
It was rare to hear such a long sentence from someone so icy.
Stopping, Chloe looked at him oddly. “Why do you want to be my agent? I don’t want one.” A stranger showing up uninvited, not representing a company, yet wanting to be her agent—how was she supposed to take that?
Lan Lun pursed his lips again, unwavering. “Why not?”
Chloe pulled at her hair in frustration at the stubbornness of this ice-cold man. “There’s no ‘why.’ I’m still a student, not signed to any company. I don’t have job security, and I can’t afford an agent!”
Seeing her calm demeanor, Lan Lun rolled his eyes subtly, a faint smile flickering in his gaze. He trusted his own persistence. “Then I won’t take a fee.”
“What?” Chloe was stunned. It seemed like this year was full of strange and unexpected things—here was another one popping up.
After a pause, Lan Lun leisurely slipped his hands into his pockets, still exuding that cold aura. “I mean I’ll be your agent starting now, but won’t take any commission until you graduate. I’ll just do the work. If you’re satisfied then, we can sign a formal contract after you graduate.”
Chloe gave him a strange look. He was surprisingly straightforward and confident—no hint of hesitation. She couldn’t quite figure it out. “Why do you want to do this? Isn’t it a big loss for you?”
“Because you’re worth it. Because…” Lan Lun’s face remained expressionless before he added, “You can stand shoulder to shoulder with Xiao Jingxuan.”
“Stand shoulder to shoulder with Senior Xiao?” Chloe was genuinely shocked. The idea seemed incredible. Although Li Shuangmu, Qiu Xian, and others had praised her, she knew her own limits. Hearing that she could compare to the great Xiao Jingxuan was almost unbelievable—too exaggerated!
Xiao Jingxuan’s brilliance and prowess were deeply etched in Chloe’s heart. Even though her idol’s aura had faded since her rebirth, she knew clearly the heights he would reach. Being compared to him was terrifying.
“…If you’re willing,” Lan Lun added, noticing Chloe’s astonishment. Could it be she held such high regard for Xiao Jingxuan and foresaw how far he would go?
“Impossible!” Chloe retorted, glaring.
She had no powerhouse company backing her. How could she possibly compare to Xiao Jingxuan? This guy must be joking! At the time, Xiao Jingxuan was only a top-tier star in the country, not yet a global icon. Few could have imagined how far he would eventually go.
Many things were beyond ordinary people’s imagination or daring.
Seeing Chloe’s resolute refusal, Lan Lun’s usually expressionless face twitched faintly, barely noticeable. “I know you still have some troubles now. If I become your agent, I’ll handle them. You won’t have to worry about a thing.”
Without dwelling on future concerns, Lan Lun decided to approach the matter from a different angle—specifically, the issues left behind by Wang Yanan.
Since the entertainment companies that had approached were all small fry, and with Wang Yanan’s scandal exposed, Chloe was no longer anxious. Yet the problems persisted, and this little troublemaker was still hard to deal with. She hadn’t figured out exactly how to handle it yet.
Lan Lun’s words struck a chord deep within Chloe, stirring a touch of temptation. The thought of dealing with those matters made her admittedly impatient, which explained why she had been procrastinating.
