Lin Feifei was used to trading barbs with me and did not take my words to heart. She merely shot me a withering look before walking into my apartment.

I closed the door behind her and followed her inside. Seeing the cluttered living room, I felt a little embarrassed. I was just about to salvage my image when Lin Feifei spoke first.

“Your place is actually pretty clean!”

“…”

I was caught between laughter and tears. Just how messy was her own home if she considered this tidy? I was never one to pass up an opportunity to tease her, so I said with a grin, “Is this what they mean by ‘without comparison, there can be no sense of harm’?”

Lin Feifei glared at me with her almond-shaped eyes. “You’re addicted to arguing with me, aren’t you? If I didn’t need to keep you around to deal with that scumbag, I would have castrated you long ago!”

I chuckled. “I’m afraid you wouldn’t have the heart to bring the knife down.”

“Get lost! Go change your clothes!”

Her cheeks flushed crimson. Set off by her makeup, she looked even more radiant, and I found myself utterly captivated.

I answered, “At once,” then turned and dashed into the bathroom for a shower. When I came out, Lin Feifei was sitting on the sofa with her long legs crossed, playing on her phone. Her snowy legs immediately caught my attention.

Lin Feifei glanced up at me and lifted one corner of her mouth. “I thought you were going to come out shirtless! Good thing you still remembered to put on clothes. At least you have some manners.”

I grinned. “Did you think my six precious abdominal muscles were available for viewing whenever you pleased?”

Lin Feifei laughed in exasperation and rolled her eyes at me, her voice laced with amusement. “Oh? You have abdominal muscles?”

I slapped my stomach proudly. “Of course. They’re abdominal muscles—there’s both abdomen and muscle.”

“Get lost!” Lin Feifei cursed with a laugh, her face turning red.

They say clothes make the man. Once I put on the casual suit Lin Feifei had given me the day before, my entire presence changed at once. When she saw me come out of the bedroom, she praised me without restraint.

“Hmm, I didn’t expect you to look so handsome in that outfit. I guess you really do need to dress up.”

I nodded and said with exaggerated regret, “It would be even more perfect with a nice belt. I shouldn’t have stopped you yesterday.”

Lin Feifei seemed almost immune to my teasing by then. Pouting, she said, “All right, let’s get going! If we keep dawdling, we’ll be late.”

“Are you really that eager to see the ugly face of your ex-boyfriend?”

“I’m afraid we’ll miss the start of the banquet if we arrive late.”

Laughing and chatting, we left the apartment. Just then, the sound of a lock turning came from the security door opposite ours. The next moment, the beautiful face of Zhou Shutong emerged from behind it.

The three of us stared at one another. Zhou Shutong was the first to recover. She glanced at Lin Feifei, a flash of admiration crossing her eyes, before quickly turning her gaze to me.

After looking me up and down several times, Zhou Shutong smiled openly. “Good morning! So you’re not streaming today because you have a date with a beautiful lady?”

A bitter smile tugged at my lips. I had only told her that I was going out with a friend to take care of some business; I had never mentioned that this friend was a beautiful woman. Now that she had caught me in the act, I suddenly felt like a thief.

Putting on a relaxed smile, I said, “Let me introduce you. This is my good friend, Lin Feifei. Her name is Zhou Shutong. She’s my neighbor and also an important strategic partner of mine.”

Zhou Shutong laughed in spite of herself and pursed her lips at Lin Feifei. “Don’t listen to him. I’m just going downstairs to buy breakfast. Since you’re heading out too, why don’t we go together?”

We went downstairs one after another. After waving goodbye to Zhou Shutong, Lin Feifei and I got into the car. As I started the engine, she watched Zhou Shutong gradually disappear into the distance and suddenly sighed.

“That girl is gorgeous! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anyone look so beautiful without makeup.”

I nodded. “Yeah. I think the two of you are evenly matched.”

A smile bloomed across Lin Feifei’s face like sunlight breaking through the clouds. “Hehe, actually, I’ve been waiting for you to say that!”

“Women really do love hearing lies.”

“You!”

Lin Feifei arched her brows, but then suddenly relaxed and smiled sweetly. “Forget it. Men like saying one thing and meaning another too. Drive, my beloved temporary boyfriend.”

The wedding was being held at a five-star hotel, whose parking lot was crowded with luxury cars. I could not help feeling dazed, as though I did not belong in this world at all.

I accompanied Lin Feifei to present the wedding gift, then walked straight into the magnificent wedding hall.

The moment we entered, someone called out to Lin Feifei. We turned and saw a slender young woman waving at her.

“Feifei, we’re over here. Sit at this table.”

Lin Feifei pulled me over. Six young women were seated at the table, each dressed to impress, their figures ranging from delicate to voluptuous. Their temperaments varied, but all of them were beautiful. The instant Lin Feifei appeared, however, she eclipsed them all.

With a bright smile, Lin Feifei pulled me forward. “Let me introduce everyone. This is my boyfriend, Yu Bin.”

From the moment I arrived with Lin Feifei, the eyes of those beautiful women had practically been fixed on me, leaving me deeply uncomfortable.

The big-eyed beauty who had waved to Lin Feifei first smiled and asked, “Handsome, why don’t you introduce yourself?”

“Yu Bin. Just an ordinary office drone.”

The big-eyed beauty raised one corner of her mouth and glanced at Lin Feifei. When her eyes returned to me, she smiled charmingly.

“I thought Feifei told me you wrote novels?”

I gave a few awkward laughs. “I just write a little on the side to make a living.”

The big-eyed beauty studied me closely. “What have you written? I’ll look you up. I like reading novels too.”

The other girls became interested as well.

“Exactly, tell us. We all love reading novels.”

“Are they exciting? If they’re not exciting, I won’t read them!”

Their nonstop chatter gave me a headache. Caught between laughter and helplessness, I said, “I wrote a novel about a flight attendant called The Air Hostess’s Rules of the Game.”

The big-eyed beauty froze. Her alluring eyes lit up.

“I love that book! I’ve read it at least five times. I never imagined the author would be so handsome.”

The short-haired girl sitting beside her giggled and said to me, “You didn’t know? Qiuyun absolutely adores your book. She even recommended it to me.”

The big-eyed beauty stood up and extended her hand to me.

“Let me introduce myself. My name is Xue Qiuyun, and I’m your fan. Thank you, Feifei, for helping me meet my idol.”

After the other girls searched for my work on their phones, they all looked surprised and impressed. They praised Lin Feifei for having such excellent taste and for finding a boyfriend who was both handsome and talented.

From beginning to end, Lin Feifei sat quietly beside me, a faint smile always playing at the corners of her lips. With that proud, coquettish expression, she looked as though I truly were her boyfriend.

“Feifei, you’re here!”

At that moment, a familiar male voice suddenly sounded from behind us.
