Chapter Ninety: The Value of the Blood Orchid
When the two crocodiles were suddenly felled, everyone was stunned.
“What happened?”
“What on earth was that?”
Among them, only Shan turned a complicated gaze toward the top of the ship.
Li Changsheng stood there as casually as ever.
His left hand still held up the umbrella, a dragon fruit clenched between his teeth, while his right hand twirled a harpoon as though it were a pen.
“Hm?”
Li Changsheng looked down at the water with calm eyes.
Only the merchant standing nearby, Boss Wa, was in a state of frantic anxiety, yet he did not dare say a word. He already knew these experts were members of the famed Beast-Capturing Clan. Many renowned sects and families of cultivation would not dare provoke them, preferring instead to live and let live, seeking their help when needed and keeping their distance when not.
Lin Yu cast a slightly surprised glance at the fire giant opposite him and found a trace of a smile at the corner of the man’s mouth.
By the time withered Rong had reached the edge of the black curtain, and Lin Yu was still three or four feet behind him, with a grin to Lin Yu, he plunged headfirst into the darkness without the slightest hesitation.
This aura did not feel oppressive. It was simply the sensation of an immense existence being noticed. Before such existence, one could do nothing at all, not even move a step. This suppression of will was more formidable than any spell or immortal art.
No one had expected that a sandstorm that came out of nowhere would actually save Liu Bang’s beloved wife. Such was the chance irregularity of history.
“So it is honored guests from the Dragon-Seeking Sect. Please follow me.” With that, he was about to lead the way.
He looked up at the dozens of stunned immortals and demons, cultivators and spirit-magic masters suspended in the air, and could not help feeling at a loss for words.
The people behind him grew fewer and fewer, each one vanishing flesh and bone in successive explosions, while their nascent spirits were swallowed clean by the monsters racing close behind. In the end, only Xing Yun was still running at full speed.
The emperor was deeply saddened by this, yet utterly helpless. All he could do now was lower his head in humility. To be an emperor required a certain professionalism, even if he was only a puppet emperor.
Seeing everyone’s eyes on him, Lin Yu felt a tingle of unease. He wondered how he should escape later, and then suddenly saw the burly man not far away looking on with schadenfreude. A plan took shape in his mind; he just did not know whether the life of this one with an eighth-rank dual-attribute spiritual root was worth much in the eyes of these old monsters.
There was absolutely no hint of flattery in those words, yet when Jian Hao heard them, he could only shake his head with a rueful smile.
Lady Li remembered it then: Aunt Guihua had been right. She had once been caught stealing on the day Wu’s new spirit had arrived, and she had found it disgraceful. Besides, she had seen the things in Xiao Yue’s room that time, and her heart had been itching ever since, always wanting to steal a few items back for herself.
I thought to myself, What kind of vile custom is this? Should I use a bright, enlightened mind to liberate her thinking? But after hearing what she said next, I no longer felt that way.
“Today I brought my grandson into town to take care of some matters. It’s not that I don’t want to give it to you, but I really didn’t bring much silver with me. Three heroes, this is only a small token of my sincerity. If you don’t mind, please take it.” Master trembled as he took out the money and lifted both hands high over his head.
However, if their bodies had not been swapped by now, Ye Feng probably would not have taken such a provocation and would most likely have accepted it.
Li Yuan’s indifferent voice remained clearly audible amid the surrounding noise. I could not help but lift the corners of my mouth. My eyes curved with a pleased smile as I rested my chin on one hand and used the other to lift a corner of the sedan curtain, peering out through the red gauze that covered my sight.
Gerli looked at them one by one, shaking her head after each glance, her expression growing more and more disappointed.
“...Go in...” the ghost officer replied slowly, his drawn-out tone echoing emptily through the silent night and jolting my heart so hard it trembled twice.
What on earth was going on? Instinctively, he reached for his waist, but the moment his hand moved, he remembered that his sword and armor were gone as well.
